Capt. Walter L. Whitney, husband of Orasie Lapointe
     Capt. Walter E. Whitney, son of Frank L. Whitney and Ophelia Fortin, was born on 22 June 1901 at Quincy, Massachusetts.3,4

     Capt. Walter E. Whitney and Ophelia Fortin in consideration of one dollar and other valuable consideration, sold a certain lot and parcel of land (containing seventy-five acres, more or less) with buildings thereon, situate in said Hampden on the Westerly side of the county road leading from Hampden Highlands to Winterport. to Zora M. Whitney, John O. Whitney, Marcell E. Whitney and Floyd E. Whitney on 30 September 1922. The deed was witnessed by an unknown person and proved.5

     Walter, son of Frank L. Whitney and Ophelia Fortin, married Orasie LaPointe.6,7

     Walter died on 31 January 1977 at Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, at age 75.8,9,10 and was buried at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden, Penobscot, Maine.11

WALTER E WHITNEY

HAMPDEN - Walter E Whitney, 75, of Main Road, died Jan. 31, 1977, at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 22, 1901, at Quincy, Mass., son of Frank and Ophelia (Fortin) Whitney. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. He served with the Corps of Army Engineers, was a former captain in the Merchant Marine, and was a retired Master Mariner. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Hampden, Mystic Lodge AF & AM, and the Anah Temple Shrine. He was a trustee of the Hampden Water District, and a trustee of the Hampden Academy, also a former Treasurer of the Town of Hampden, former Treasurer of the Hampden Academy, and a former Treasurer of the Hampden Water District. He was a member of the Hampden Senior Citizens. He is survived by his wife Orasie (LaPointe) Whitney of Hampden; four sons, Marcelle, Walter G., and Daniel all of Hampden, Dr. Lester Whitney of Amherst, Mass; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Keene of Bradenton, Fla., Mrs. Aline McHenry of Morton, III., 17 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a m at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with the Rev. Laurent LaPlante officiating. Friends may call at the Hampden Funeral Home, Western Ave., Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Mystic Lodge will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home Tuesday at 7 pm. Contributions may be made to the Walter E Whitney Memorial Fund, care of Robert Rowe, Principal, Hampden Academy. Spring burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden.16

Whitney-Rogerson Ceremony Held At St Mary’s Church

Patricia Marie Rogerson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie A. Rogerson, Hampden, became the bride of Walter George Whitney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E Whitney, Hampden Highlands, Saturday morning in St Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Dona;d W. Jacques performed the doible ring ceremony. Wedding decorations were white gladoli. Traditional wedding music was played by Miss M Isabel Carlin who also accompanied Harry Kelley. He sang "Ave Maria", "O Sanctissima" and "Pants Angelica”.
Gown Of Blue Chiffon
Given in marriage by her father the bride wore a ballerina length gown of blue chiffon with an underskirt of netting. She carried a Bible with a white orchid and streamers. Maid of honor Miss Verle Sanborn wore a ballerina-length gown of pink taffeta with lace over the skirt.She carried a Colonial boquet of pink flowers. Marcelle Whitney, brother of the bridegroom, was the bestman. The bride’s mother chose a beige brocade dress with brown accessories and a corsage of bronze and rust poms. The mother of the bridegroom wore a sheath dress of green print jersey with brown accessories and a corsage of bronze and rust poms. A wedding reception was held at the bride's home which was decorated with white streamers wedding bellss and fall flowers. Miss Donna Rogerson, sister of the bride circulated the guest book. The gift table was in charge of Miss Donna Russell and Mrs. Florence Kirkland. The wedding cake was made by the bride's mother. After the traditional first slice was cut by the bride and bridegroom it was served by Miss Barbara Sinclair Assisting m serving were Mrs Shirley Hamel and Mrs Walter Grant. Wedding Trip To Boston For a wedding trip by automobile to Boston the bride wore a powded-blue sheath with black accessories The couple will be at home alter October 15. The bride was graduated of Hampden Academy and the Eastern Academy of Beauty Culture. She is employed by Rita’s Beauty Salon. The bridegroom was graduated from Hampden Academy He is employed by the Jayson Company of Portland.3,4


     Walter died at age 81, on 12 September 2018,2 and was buried at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden, Penobscot, Maine.2

HAMPDEN - Walter George Whitney, 81, passed away at his home September 12, 2018. He was born July 8, 1937, in Bangor, the son of Walter E. and Orasie L. (Lapointe) Whitney. Walter graduated from Hampden Academy, class of 1955. He owned and operated Hampden Window, serving Hampden and the surrounding communities for over 50 years. Walter followed the local high school and college sporting teams. He especially enjoyed following the Husson Braves. Walter also liked slow pitch softball, both as a player and umpire. He enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter and camping in the summer with his family. Walter also enjoyed working in his flower garden. In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by a son, Daryl Whitney; a brother, Lester Whitney; and a sister, Louise Keene. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Patricia Whitney; children, Brent L. Whitney and wife, Diane, of Ellsworth, Cheryl Worcester and husband, Cliff, of Dedham, Stacey Burnett and husband, Scott, of Hermon; nine grandchildren, Josh, Daniel, Cassandra, Brooke, Meghan, Brianne, Catrina, Paige, and Walter; five great-grandchildren, Jaden, Jhace, Josh, Khloe, and Dominic; a twin brother, Marcelle Whitney and wife, Winifred, of Bar Harbor; siblings, Aline Patterson and husband, Hal, of Illinois, Daniel Whitney of Bangor; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Whitney; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m., Monday, September 17, 2018, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brooking-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Lakeview Cemetery, Western Avenue, Hampden.
