Miss Alice F. Van Dyke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Van Dyke of 5 Compton Terrace, Jamaica and Hubert B. Geist of the Bronx were married on Thursday evening at the home of the bride's parents. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. George C. Fort, Pastor of the Jamaica M. E. Church.

Miss Alice 'Frances Van Dyke. became the bride of Hubert Bertram Geist. of 1911 Davidson avenue, Manhattan. The Rev. Dr. George C. Fort, pastor of the Jamaica M. E. Church, officiated. The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Percy B. Van Dyke, wore a gown of white georgette and a veil of tulle with a corsage bouquet of lilies of the valley. Miss Elsie Geist, sister of the bridegroom, was bridesmaid. A reception following the ceremony had as guests Mr. and Mrs. Isaac M. Van Dyke, of Bayside, the bride's grandparents, and Mr. and Mrs. George Gosline, of City Island, her uncle and aunt. On their return from their wedding trip to Washington, D. C., the couple will make their home in Jamaica. The bride, before taking up her residence in Jamaica two years ago. lived in Hollis for twelve years. Mr. Geist is engaged in the export business in Manhattan.^3,4

     Hubert died in January 1972, at age 74,¹ and was buried at Flushing Cemetery, Flushing, Queens, New York.^5,6

     Thomas Van Dyke Geist, son of Hubert Bertram Geist and Alice Frances Van Dyke, was born on 10 September 1924 at Jamaica, Queens, New York.²

     The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. Thomas filled out a draft card for World War II in December 1942 (at age 18), while living at 112-36 202nd. Street, Hollis, Queens, New York. He was a student at the time.³

     Thomas Van Dyke Geist was in Military Service during 20 April 1943. To paraphrase words provided by Tom:
(Europe). With the 98th General Hospital, England and Munich,Germany. (He) was assigned as Chaplains Aassistant to Henry F. Gerecke who, in '45 was assigned to Nurnberg as Protestant Chaplain to War prisoners. He (Henry H. Gerecke) wanted me to go too but my points were up and wanted to come home. (Tom) did sit in on the trials three times though. I am a Church organist and Pianist so guess that is why I was assigned as Chaplins Assistant. He left the service in 1946.⁴

     Thomas married Joy Simmons in 1950.⁵ Thomas Van Dyke Geist witnessed the death of Thomas Van Dyke Geist on 22 June 2021⁶ and was buried at Calverton Cemetery, Calverton, Suffolk, New York.^6,7

     Augusta Gejer, daughter of Peter Geijer and Katrina Nilsdotter, was born on 26 June 1865 at Östra Ämtervik, Värmland, Sverige.¹
