Bangor Couple Exchanges Vows In Catholic Nuptials

Paula Marie LeBlond, 178 Center Street, Bangor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred LeBlond, Limestone, became the bride of Marcelle John Whitney, 35 Thatcher Street, Bangor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Whitney, Hampden Highlands, in St Mary's Catholic Church, Bangor, Saturday morning. The Rev. Gerard J. Bouchard performed the double-ring ceremony in front of the altar which was decorated with white gladioli and greenery. Miss M. Isabel Carlin played the wedding march and accompanied by Joseph Rice who sang "Oh Sanctissima” “Oh Sacred Heart” and “Panis Angelicus”. Given in marriage by her father the bride was charming in a street-length brocaded gown of pink satin, princess style, with an insert of pleats and a matching jacket, with a shoulder-length veil caught to a hat crown, matching the dress. She carried a white prayerbook with a white orchid and streamers of baby’s breath. Pearl ear rings a gift of the bridegroom were her only jewelry. Mrs. Shirley Hame,l Winthrop, sister of the bridegroom, was the matron of honor. She was attired in a street-length sheath of light brown lace with matching accessories and carried a cascade bouquet of yellow poms. Walter G. Whitney, Hampden twin brother of the bridegroom, was the best man. Ushers were Shirley Hamel, Winthrop, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Daniel G. Spellman, Bangor. The reception was held at the V F W Hall in Brewer, which was decorated with white wedding bells, streamers, and seasonal flowers. Miss Demerise Mosher served the wedding cake. Mrs. Sophie Flanagan assisted in serving. For a motor trip to an unannounced destination the bride selected a walking suit of green and beige wood tweed with rust-brown accessories. She complemented her ensemble with a white orchid corsage. On their return after October 5 the couple will be at home at Hampden Highlands. The bride was graduated from Limestone High School in the class of 1955 and from Husson College in 1956. She is employed by the General Adjustment Bureau Inc in Bangor. The bridegroom was graduated from Hampden Academy in the class of 1955 and from the Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Portland in 1959. He is employed by Webber Oil Company in Bangor.3,4


     Paula Marie Leblond and Marcelle J. Whitney were divorced on 7 May 1976 at Bangor, Penobscot, Maine.5

     Paula, at age 39, married James F. Newcomb on 22 January 1977.6

     Paula died on 28 February 2011, at Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, at age 73,2 and was buried at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden, Penobscot, Maine.7

PAULA M NEWCOMB

HAMPDEN - Paula M. Newcomb, 73, passed away peacefully Feb. 28, 2011, surrounded by her family at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 8, 1937, in Limestone daughter of the late Wilfred and Laura (Mosher) LeBlond. Paula was a graduate of Limestone High School and Husson College. She lived in Hampden for many years and was a vital and active member of the community and a devote communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Matthews Catholic Church. Paula worked for the town of Hampden as tax collector and town clerk for 20 years before retiring. She was always on the go end helping others. Paula will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who contributed greatly to many people's lives and to the fabric of the town of Hampden. Paula is survived by her beloved daughters Denise Overlock, and her longtime companion, Sean McDonald of Brewer, Laura Preston and her husband Dennis of Hampden, and June Levesque and her husband Michael of Hampden; and brother Thomas LeBlond and his wife Karen of Cushing. She was the proud grandmother of Monique Overlock, Ronnie Overlock Jr., and his wife Nicole, Jennifer Rogers and her husband Jerry, Justin Preston, Reese Brigette and Wyatt Levesque. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Johanna and Jordan Rogers, and Hayden Murphy, many special friends. Family and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday, March 3, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 pm Friday, March 4, at St Paul the Apostle Parish, St Matthews Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden. Interment in the springtime will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. The family would appreciate any expressions of sympathy be made in Paula'a memory to Physical Therapy Fund for patients with Multiple Sclerosis care of St Joseph Healthcare, PO Box 1638, Bangor, ME 04402-1638.
