Frank William Ziegler, son of Lewis E. Ziegler and Alice Marie Pobstman, was born on 14 March 1882 at Hinckley, Illinois.^1,4

     Frank married Mary Frederikke Svendsen on 15 November 1909, at Pipestone, Grange, Minnesota.^5,6

     Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31. As a result, this first registration included men born between June 5, 1886 and June 5, 1896. As World War I continued to escalate, the United States instituted a second draft registration. The second registration was for men who had turned 21 since June 5, 1917, so it added men born between June 5, 1896 and June 5, 1897. Two months later, a supplemental registration was held on August 24, 1918 for men who had become 21 years of age since June 5, 1918, adding the names of men who were born between June 5, 1897 and August 24, 1897. With no end in sight for World War I, the United States instituted it's third and final registration. It included all men who were between the ages of 18 and 21, and 31 to 45 years of age. This added younger men than the previous registrations, those who were born between September 12, 1897 and September 12, 1900; and added an older group of men, born between September 12, 1873 and September 12, 1888. Frank filled out a draft card for World War I on 9 September 1918 (at age 36), while living at Hinckley, Pine, Minnesota. He was employed as a self employed farmer and described as height, medium and medium build with blue eyes and brown hair. His mother, Marie, was listed as nearest Relative.⁷

     The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. Frank filled out a draft card for World War II on 22 April 1942 (at age 60), while living at 145-12-10 East, Dolton, Cook, Illinois. He was working for Morris Grain Company.⁸

     Frank died on 23 October 1961, at Roseland Community Hospital, Chicago, Cook, Illinois, at age 79,⁹ and was buried at Chapel Hill Gardens South, Oak Lawn, Cook, Illinois.³

     Franklin E "Frank" Ziegler was born on 5 December 1865 at Pierce, DeKalb, Illinois.¹

     Franklin, at age 27, married Felicitas Elizabeth Meyer at age 28 on 25 April 1893, at Somonauk.²

     Franklin died on 14 June 1938, at Kaneville, Kane, Illinois, at age 72.³

     George Ziegler was born circa 1902 at Illinois.¹

     Johann Gottlieb Ziegler was born on 21 April 1816 at Pfahlbach, Hohenlohekreis, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany.¹

     Johann, at age 33, married Mary Ann Berg at age 25 on 17 May 1849.²

     Johann died on 1 March 1900, at DeKalb, Illinois, at age 83.³

     Johann Gottlieb Ziegler was buried at Saint Marys Catholic Cemetery, Maple Park, DeKalb, Illinois.³

     Lewis E. Ziegler, son of Johann Gottlieb Ziegler, was born on 7 January 1850 at Illinois.^1,2

     Lewis, at age 29, married Alice Marie Pobstman at age 18, daughter of George Pobstman and Margaret "Surname Unknown", on 18 February 1879, at DeKalb, Illinois.³

     Lewis, at age 39, married Bertha G Starkweather at age 21 on 28 October 1889, at Holland, Minnesota.⁴ Lewis E. Ziegler filed for divorce from Bertha G Starkweather on 24 March 1900 at Gratiot, Michigan. Reason listed as extreme cruelity.⁵

     Lewis died on 10 June 1928, at Donna, Hidalgo, Texas, at age 78,⁶ and was buried at Saint Marys Catholic Cemetery, Maple Park, DeKalb, Illinois.⁶
