Philip Danford (or Flanders) was born in Boscowen, New Hampshire 15 Nov 1759 the illigitimate son of a Danford mother of Sanford and Philip Flanders. He married Mary Tibbetts of Prospect, Maine, called his cousin. He died Freedom, Maine, June 1837. He entered the service as Philip Flanders, but later changed his name to Danford. Some of his children used the name Danforth. These facts about Philip, his parents, wife and children were taken from "Maine Families in 1790", Vol. 2. These facts were submitted by James B. He traded up and down the Penobscot River, first at the mouth of the Penjeawoch Stream, now Red Bridge and afterward near the Water Works Dam. He owned sawmills in Bangor, Stillwater, Orland and Frankfort. Entries from his day book indicated he traded with Philip Danforth. Philip sold land to Joshua Treat, Jr. on October 27, 1795 at a place called Goshen Settlement, in Frankfort, bounded by land of James Couillard and Samuel Clark. (Hancock Rec., Vol.,Fol. 526).
This fact was found in the paper "Maine Farmer", vVital Statistics from 1833 - 1852. Philip Danforth was onboard the Scooner Albert and was knocked overboard by the boom and drowned July 9, 1842. on 15 November 1759.2
