     Bertha and George appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Searsport, Waldo, Maine, at Atlantic Highway East, enumerated 17 April 1930. George was working as a house painter. There also was a granddaughter, Avis I. Gray, age 2.5 in their home Their children, Elmer Joseph, Edith Astine and James P. were listed as living with them.5

     Bertha and George appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Searsport, Waldo, Maine, enumerated 29 April 1940. He was working as a caretaker for a private home. Their children, Elmer Joseph, Edith Astine and James P. were listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.6
