The term of enlistment was for the duration of the war or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law. His education level was listed as four years of high school and his civilian occupation equilvant listed as carpenters. Finally, his Army serial number was 12186396.3

     Lester, at age 20, married Betty Jo Berney at age 19, daughter of Arthur George Berney and Josephine A. "Surname Unknown", in June 1944.4

     Lester Clinton Van Dyke died at age 85, on 1 September 2009, He was cremated.5,6

     Lester's obituary read as follows: was composed through the efforts of family members.

VAN DYKE, Lester Clinton, Martinez resident for 44 years, passed on September 1, 2009. Dearly beloved husband of the late Betty Jo Van Dyke; loving father of Diana, David, Jeffrey, Carol, and Beverly; devoted grandfather of Leslie, Gordon, Bobby, Samuel, Micah, Joel, Kylie, Azar, Marie, and Anne; dear great-grandfather of Olivia. Les also leaves many loving friends and relatives. At the age of 85, Les passed away peacefully at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Walnut Creek while surrounded by his family. Les was born and raised in Hicksville, Long Island, New York, and graduated from Roslyn High School. Les served in the South Pacific in WWII as a member of the Army Air Corp and an Air Cadet. While receiving training at the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho, Les met Betty Jo Berney and they married in June 1944. Les was a carpenter and a licensed contractor; he built three homes in Martinez. He loved to travel with his wife and visited Europe, Egypt, and Israel. Having always had a desire to fly, Les built and flew his own airplane, a Himax single seat made of wood. A memorial service celebrating his life will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11:00 am at the Morello Christian Church. An open casket viewing will be held from 10:00 to 10:45 am.7

     Garret, married Catherine Johanna Nevius, daughter of Johannes Nevius, in 1691 at New York.4

     Garret Pieterse Wyckoff left a Will on 9 October 1704 This is an Abstract of his Will;

In the name of God, Amen, this 9 October 1704. Be it known that I, Garett Wyckoff, of Flatlands in Kings County, on the Island of Nassau, being at present very sick and weak. I leave to my loving wife Katharine, all estate of houses and lands, during her life, and 12 acres of land within the limits of Gravesend. But if she remarry, then an inventory is to be made, and my eldest son Peter shall have half of the houses and lands when he is of age, and the other half after my wife's decease, and he is to pay to the other children, namely, Greetie, Adriane, Amke, Marytie and Janica, £ 450, I give to my son Peter, a silver tankard, and my plows and harrows and all the tackling belonging to a farm. The testator makes provision for an expected child. I make my loving friends and brothers, Claas Wyckoff, Hendrick Wyckoff, Peter Wyckoff, Garett Stoothoff, and Peter Nevins, my executors. And they are to sell a 12 acre lot of land, lying at Ambrose Island, so in the town of Gravesend. Witnesses, Jan Terhunen, James Amerman, Henry Filkin. Proved at Flatlands, July 12 1707, and confirmed by Lord Cornbury.2,5,6
