     Stanley E. Watson was born on 20 January 1897 at Asotin, Washington.2,3

     Stanley, at age 28, married Dorris M. Smith at age 21, daughter of William Lincoln Smith and Lucy Wamsbrough, on 30 August 1925.1

     The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. Stanley filled out a draft card for World War II on 27 April 1942 (at age 45), while living at 5814 N E 22 nd Ave, Portland, Multnomah, Oregon. He was described as 5' 8", 140 lbs., hazel eyes, black, dark complexion.4

     Stanley died at age 82, on 29 October 1979, at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah, Oregon,2,5 and was buried at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah, Oregon.2

     Stanley and Dorris appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, enumerated 18 April 1930. Stanley was renting, paying $27.50 per month. They had a radio set. He was a salesman in the electric field Their son, Donald was listed as living with them.6

     Stanley and Dorris appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, at N. E. 22 Avenue, enumerated 2 April 1940. Stanley owned his home, valued at $4000.00. He was an electrician and Dorris was a receptionist in optometry Their children, Donald were listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.7
