Obituary

DEDHAM

The death of. Nancy E. Burrill, widow of Asa C. Burrill, occurred at her home in Dedham, Sunday evening, March 28, at 9 o'clock, from troubles incident to old age, she having reached the age of 85 years, 3 months, 22 days. Mrs. Burrill was born in township Ko. 8 and was eight years old when the town of Dedham was incorporated. She was the third child of Dudley and Eunice (Condon) Blaisdell and the last survivor of a family of eleven children, outliving the youngest, the late Dr. Robert H. Biaisdell of Sheridan, Mich., seven years. In November 1849, she was united in marriage to Mr. Burrill and came to the homestead settled by his father in I826, where she lived 65 years. Of their nine children, four are living. Mrs. Frank W. Fogg and Mrs. Lewis M. Blood of East Bucksport, Mrs. Julian E. Turner of Brewer and Ernest W. Burrill with whom she lived. She also leaves seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her husband died fifteen years ago. Her last great sorrow was the loss of her oldest son, Hadley P. Burrill, who died In April 1914. For more than sixty years she had been a faithful member of the Free Baptist church and was the last charter member of the Womans Missionary Society, organized in 1852, of which she was constituted a'life member in 1887. For many years she was a teacher in the Sabbath school which she helped organize, not giving up the work she loved so well until in her seventy-ninth year. She gave proof of her Christian character, in many ways, in her devotion as a wife and mother, in her fidelity to church work, her hospitality in her home and her kindness as a neighbor. Of a most willing and self-sacrtflclng nature, she gave freely of her time and strength until prevented by the infirmities of age, and it was with great reluctance she gave up the manifold cares and duties of a long and useful life. The hands which ministered so many times to the sick and dying are forever stilled. Pale, withered hands, that more than fourscore years Had wrought for others; smoothed the hurt of tears, Rocked childrens cradles, eased the fevers smart, Now, stlrless folded, like wan rose leaves pressed Above the snow and silence of her breast; In mute appeal they told of labors done, And well-earned rest that came at set of sun. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday at 2 oclock. Rev. S. C. Whitcomb of the Free Baptist church of Bangor officiated, with appropriate selections of Scripture, prayer, tender and appreciative remarks of the life of the one who hail gone, and comforting to the family. Herbert Searles, acting pastor of the Dedham Congregational church read poem. Miss Lillis Phillips ot Holden sang, Im Going Home, and Safe to the Arms of Jesus. There were many choice floral tributes, among which were the following: A beautiful wreath with "Mother", from the children, a duster of Call Lilies from the grandchildren, Easter Lilies and a profusion of pinks from relatives and friends in Bangor, Brewer, Holden, and Dedham. The arrangements were in charge of J. E. Huggard of Brewer The bearers were four grandsons, Harold, Leslie and Clifford Burrill and Ernest J. Turner. The interment was in the family lot in Union cemetery.14
