     Orasie died on 5 September 1998, at Bangor, Penobscot, Maine,4,2 and was buried at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden, Penobscot, Maine.5

     Orasie LaPointe, and her husband, Walter, and two children appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Fairhaven, Bristol, Massachusetts in the household of his mother, Ophelia Fortin.6

ORASIE ‘RIZ’ WHITNEY

HAMPDEN - Orasie L. Whitney, 90, died Sept. 5, 1998 at a Bangor hospital. She was born in Laterriere, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Georges and Marie (Desbiens) Lapointe. Orasie had made her home in Hampden for 65 years and during the early years she and her late husband, Walter E. Whitney were active in the community. She was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church of Hampden and a former member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Bangor before the establishment of St. Matthews. She was also a member of the Hampden Senior Citizens and a former member of the Hampden Garden Club and the Hampden Benevolent Society. 'Riz as her family lovingly called her, lived a full and active life and devoted her life to raising her family. She always enjoyed playing a good game of cards and collecting things on her travels with her good friend, Esther Chesley. Orasie will always be remembered by her family as a loving and caring mother with a great sense of humor and as a good sport. Surviving are her children, Lester F. Whitney and his wife Phyllis of Amherst, Mass., a daughter Aline M. Patterson and her husband, Hal, of Springfield, Ill., sons Walter G. Whitney and his wife Patricia of Hampden, Marcelle J. Whitney and his wife Winnie of Hampden, and Daniel F. Whitney of Bangor; a sister Olivette Gagne of Chicoutimi, Canada; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, in 1977, and by a daughter, Louise O. Keene in 1993. Friends may call 6:30-9 pm Monday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Tuesday at St Matthew's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jean-Paul Lobrie pastor celebrant. Interment will be in the family lot at Locust Grove Cemetery Hampden. Gestures of remembrance may be made to the Walter G. and Orasie L. Whitney Memorial Scholarship Fund care of Hampden Academy, Main Road, Hampden, 04444.2
