Obituary

Dedham, Hancock, Maine,

Guy H. Burrill

The funeral of Guy H. Burrill who died at 5:45 PM Saturday, June 18, was held at the Congregational church, Tuesday afternoon with a very large attendance. Rev. Warrent Morse of Brewer spoke very impressively, assisted by Rev. F. R. Champlin of Holden and Rev. H. A. Freeman of Brewer. There was no singing. The many floral tributes, among them being a beautiful designed of mixed flowers with 'brother'. Arrangements were in charge of J. E. Huggard.
The bearers were three brothers, Harold S., Leslie F. and Clifford L. Burrill and cousin Walter B. Fogg. The burial was in the family lot in Parker cemetery (*). Mr. Burrill was the second son of Hadley P. and Ella (Lovejoy) Burrill and leaves besides his parents and three brothers already named, one sister, Marcia E. Burrill of Dedham and Mrs. Hattie Lovejoy of Old Town, and many other relatives, who deeply morn his loss. Two brothers, Howard A. the oldest died fifteen years ago and Earl P. the youngest sixteen years ago. Mr. Burrill had been ill a year with tuberculosis and last September went to the Mebron Sanitorium hoping to be benefitted by the treatment there, but after ten weeks returned home where everything possible has been done for his help and comfort. During his long and trying illness he was ever brave and patient, thoughtful for others and fully appreciated the care and attention bestowed upon him by devoted parents and loving friends.
He received his education in the public schools of Dedham and at the Eastern State Normal school where he graduated in 1903. He taught school for a time and in 1907 entered the University of Maine for a course of study in special work. He was employed for the summer months, five years in succession, by the firm of W. O. and J. L. Fogg, market gardeners at Hull's Cove, where he was held in high esteem. He was very ambitious and enterprising, succeeding in whatever he undertook.
Mr. Burrill was a young man of excellent character, being an active member of the Dedham Congregational church and the Christian Endeavor society where he will be greatly missed. He was also a member of the local grange. Interested in town affairs, he had served as selectman and on the school board and his death means a distinct loss to the community where he had always lived. Although it was to give up life and all that was near and dear to him, he was reconciled to God's will and with a 'good bye everybody' up his lips, passed away with unwavering trust in Him who had been his strength and support and faith that he would meet the loved ones gone before.
To the sorrowing family who have lost a loving and dutiful son and brother, and to her who was to have shared his home and life-work and by her courage and cheerfulness has tried to make his last days brighter, is extended the heartfelt sympathy of many friends.9,10
