Florence M. Judkins, Wife of Carroll H. Knowlton
     Florence M. Judkins, daughter of Clyde H. Judkins and Clarice A. Pratt, was born circa 1913 at Maine.2

     Florence, daughter of Clyde H. Judkins and Clarice A. Pratt, married Carroll H. Knowlton at age 21, son of Harry Leroy Knowlton and Gertrude May Cross, on 24 June 1933.3

     Florence and Carroll were living across the street from the 'Cross' farm on the Milo Road. He was a machinist working for Frank Smith. On Saturday nights, they had dances in his garage. Alice Cross played the piano, Carroll played the sax, Raymond Annis played the drums and there was a violinist. He had a small store out front where he sold gum, bread and milk. circa 1945 at Maine.4

     In 1948 Florence sent a letter to Carroll . He was working as a 'millwright'. at Maine.5

     Florence M. Judkins died on 14 January 1985 at Bangor, Penobscot, Maine,6,7 and was buried at Dover Cemetery, Dover Foxcroft, Piscataquis, Maine.8

He and Florence completed four years of high school. Caroll was working as a machinist in a woolen mill Their children, Carolyn Irene and Beverly E. were listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.10

     Herbert died on 8 February 1987,3 and was buried at Nashville National Cemetery, Madison, Davidson, Tennessee.3

     Herbert and Sylvia appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Garland, Penobscot, Maine, at Notch Road, enumerated 3 April 1940. Herbert was renting, with a $5.00 monthly. He completed 8th grade. His last residence was Dover, Piscataquis. He was working as a laborer for the 'W P A'. (The Works Progress Administration (renamed during 1939 as the Works Project Administration; WPA) was the largest and most ambitious New Deal agency, employing millions of unskilled workers to carry out public works projects,including the construction of public buildings and roads, and operated large arts, drama, media, and literacy projects. At its peak in 1938 it provided paid jobs for three million unemployed men (and some women). Their children, Carmine, Shirley M. and Madeline were listed as living with them.
