Lydia Garnett, daughter of Daniel Garnett Jr. and Hannah Sherman, was born circa 1774.1

Lydia Garnett After her husband's death in 1812, Lydia had to raise seven daughters alone. We learn from her pension file that she became destitute and was taken in by various Garnett family members around Dennysville and Pembroke. In 1838 the U S Government passed a law granting certain Revoluntionary War widows half pay and pensions. In 1840, she applied for a pension and was granted one for five years. In 1848, the law was changed and she was able to obtain a pension for life. She received $120.00 per annum. In 1855, two years before her death she was able to apply for bounty land under a new Act of Congress. She eventually received land because an inventory of her estate after her death shows she had 50 acres.1
Lydia Garnett died on 20 April 1857 at Marion, Washington, Maine.1
Lydia left a Will after 20 April 1857 at Marion, Washington, Maine, An inventory of her estate shows she had a house with 50 acres, a bedstead and bed linens, 4 chairs, one cow and a ton of hay. Arron Hobart of Dennysville was the executor of her estate. She left 5 daughters one dollar each. The children of her deceased daughter, Rebeccah Sullivan, were given one dollar each. The balance of her estate was divided between her daughter, Polly, and Hannah Garnett, whom she had lived with for many years.2
