He was working as a welder. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.2

     Mary 'Polly' Knapp, daughter of Abijah Knapp, was born on 24 October 1790 at Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts.2

     Mary, daughter of Abijah Knapp, married Azel Edward Gurney, son of Zachariah Gurney Jr. and Matilda Packard, in 1815.1

     Mary 'Polly' Knapp died on 2 January 1864 at Massachusetts at age 73.2 and was buried at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton, Plymouth, Maine.3

Census

     Mary and Azel appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of North Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts, enumerated 26 August 1850. Azel was a farmer, his real estate valued at $4000.00. There was a Susan Thorton, age 21 and Thomas Doyle, age 19 in the home. Their children, Alpheus and Azel E. were listed as living with them.4

     Mary and Azel appeared on the 1855 Massachusetts Census of North Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts, enumerated 25 September 1855. Azel was a farmer, his wife, a shoe fitter. There was a Susan Thorton, age 27, Thomas Doyle, age 24 and Richard Holland, age 15 in the home..5
