     Katherine Anne Samways was born on 17 July 1910 at Brewer, Penobscot, Maine.1

     Katherine, at age 26, married David Clarence Kiah at age 24, son of David Kiah and Evaline Verrow, on 12 June 1937.1

     Katherine died at age 91, on 29 December 2001, at St. Joseph's Manor, Portland, Cumberland, Maine,2 and was buried at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor, Penobscot, Maine.3

KATHERINE ANNE KIAH

PORTLAND - Katherine Anne Kiah, 91, died at St Joseph's Manor Portland Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001. She was the loving wife of David Clarence Kiah. Mrs Kiah was born in Brewer, July 17, 1910, the daughter of the late Henry E. and Dehlia (Flaherty) Samways. She lived in Brewer until 1958 when she moved to Greenwick, Conn. In 1988 she moved to Brookfield, Conn., where she resided for the next 11 years before moving to the Park Danrorth in Portland in 1999. In addition to her devoted husband of 64 years, Katherine, known as Kay or Grammy to most is survived by four children, a daughter Sister Annemarie Kiah, Sister of Mercy South Portland; three sons David H. and wife Janet of Newton, Mass., Donald L. and wife Joy of Windsor, Conn., and Daniel E. and wife Donna of Bethel, Conn. She is also survived by six grandchildren, David of Newton, Mass., Robert of Los Angeles, Calif., Timothy of New York, NY, Bill of Ft. Collins, Colo., Katherine Martinez and her husband Larry of Bethel, Conn., and Christopher Kiah and his wife Debra, and their two sons, greatgrandchildren, Evan and Sean of Lincolnshire, Ill. She also leaves two sisters, Eileen Albert of Framingham, Mass., and Carolyn Harrington and her husband Joe of Manchester, NH; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Samways and her sister Peg McPherson. Kay was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Portland and previously St. Mary Church in Bethel, Conn. Her smile and twinkling blue eyes will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11 am Monday, Dec. 31, at St Joseph's Church, Stevens Avenue. Interment will be at the convenience of the family Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday, Dec. 30, at the Conroy-Tully Funeral Home, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, ME. Donations in Mrs. Kiah's memory may be made to Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 605 Stevens Ave., Portland, ME 04103.2

     Fannie H. Sands, daughter of William Sands, was born circa 1844.1

     Fannie, daughter of William Sands, married Charles Payson Silsby at age 25, son of Samuel Silsby and Lovicey Osgood, on 4 September 1864 at Blue Hill, Hancock, Maine.2

Census

     Fannie and Charles appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Aurora, Hancock, Maine, enumerated 28 June 1870. Charles was listed as a farmer. His real estate valued at $1500.00 and personal property at $973.00.. Their children, Herbert Trafton and Helen L., and Charles parents, Samuel and Lovicey were listed as living with them.3

     Fannie and Charles appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Aurora, Hancock, Maine, enumerated, 18 June 1900. Charles was listed as a farmer on a general farm. Fannie was listed as a teacher in a public school.. Their children, Helen L. and Bernice J. were listed as living with them.4
