     Edward H. Moore, son of George E. Moore and Olive M. Tourtillotte, was born on 25 December 1912 at Hartland, Maine.1

Miss Jean F. Burriil Weds Edward H. Moore in Brewer

- Charming Ceremony Takes Place in First Congregational Church. The First Congregational church in Brewer was the scene of a charming bridal Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock when Miss Jean Frances Burriil, daughter of Former Mayor Harold S. Burnll and Mrs. Burriil. became the bride of Edward Herbert Moore, son of George E. Moore of Gardiner, formerly of Franklin, and the late Mrs. Olive Tourtelotte Moore. The double ring service was read by Rev. Basil Gleason. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion with peonies, lilies and ferns. Herbert Hobbs, church organiist, played Oh Promise Me, "I Love You Truly, At Dawning, and for the processional "The Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin. Immediately following the ceremony he played selections on the chimes. The bride chose as her only attendant her sister, Mrs. Robert Klah who acted as matron of honor. Earl Moore, a brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Hadley Burriil, brother of the bride; Oscar Salisbury, Robert Kiah and Howard Murch, Jr. Wearing her mother' wedding veil of tulle which was caught to a coronet of tulle and seed pearls the bride was beautifully gowned in white satin fashioned princess style en train and with a Stuart collar. She carried a shower bouquet of bride's -roses, and valley lilies. She was given In marriage by her father. Mrs. Kiah was attractive In Wallis blue organdie, her yellow organdie hat was fashioned Mary Queen of Scots style and she carried a Colonial bouquet of yellow and blue flowers. Mrs. Burriil, mother of the bride, was charming in blue lace over taffeta. She wore a matching picture hat. Decorations were in charge, both at the church and at the home, of Mrs. Linwood Abbott who was assisted by Miss Geneva Hodgkins and Miss Marion Starkey. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the brides parents at 32 School street, Brewer. Assisting in serving the bridal collation were: Miss June Burriil, Brewer; Miss Eleanor Burriil and Miss Margaret Burriil. Bangor; and Miss Doris Dorr, Orland, all cousins of the bride. Miss Evelyn Moore, of Hartford, Conn., was in charge of the guest book. Gifts were in charge of Mrs. Oscar Salisbury and Mrs. William Jude, sister of the bridegroom, was in charge o t the bride's cake. Miss Kate Fitzgerald catered. One hundred and twenty-five intimate friends and relatives of the young couple attended the reception. Mr. and Mrs. Moore left for a wedding trip through the White Mountains and on their return will make their home for the summer at 32 School street. Brewer. The bride going away suit, was of rock rose crepe with navy blue hat and accessories. Mr. and Mrs. Moore will be at home to friends after July 10. The bride was graduated from Brewer High school and Farmington State Normal school and for the past two years and a half has taught school in Brewer. Mr. Moore was graduated from Brewer High school and attended the Maine School of Commerce. He is employed by the Cushman Lumber company. Out of town guests included: Mr, and Mrs. George E. From NEWS and Wire Reports A 70 year old woman and two teenagers were killed on Maine highways during the weekend police said. The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said Jean Moore of Orrington died at Eastern Maine Medical Center at about 10 p m Friday two hours after a motorcycle rammed into the car driven by her husband Edward 72. The collision took place about 8pm on Friday when Edward Moore who was heading south on the Dow Road in Orrmgton turned left into a friend’s driveway at the top of a blind hill according to Deputy Perry Antone. At the same moment Scott Sutherland 16 of Bangor crested the hill driving his 1982 Suzuki motorcycle and struck the front passenger door of the Moore vehicle Antone said. Randolph Purvis 16 of Bangor was driving a 1983 Honda motorcycle far enough behind Sutherland so that he had time to avoid the car but Sutherland's motorcycle bounced off the car and struck Purvis’ motorcycle according to Antone. Sutherland was listed in fair condition at EMMC Sunday afternoon while Purvis and Edward Moore were both treated and released according to a hospital spokesman.5


     Edward, at age 74, son of George E. Moore and Olive M. Tourtillotte, married Bessie Rawcliffe on 7 February 1987.6

     Edward died on 5 October 2005, at Ross Manor., Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, at age 92,1 and was buried at Marston Cemetery, Orrington, Penobscot, Maine.1

     Edward and Jean appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Orrington, Penobscot, Maine, enumerated 21 May 1940. Edward was working as a printer at a printing office. On April 01, 1935, they were living at Brewer, Maine.. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.7

EDWARD H. MOORE

ORRINGTON - Edward Herbert Moore, 92, died Oct. 5, 2005, at Ross Manor. He was a resident of Orrington for 68 years. He was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Hartland, the son of George E. and Olive M. (Tourtillotte) Moore. Mr. Moore attended Brewer schools. He began in the printing business in Fort Fairfield, then went on to work in Bar Harbor and Bangor. In 1940, Mr. Moore began working with L.H. Thompson Printing Co. of Brewer, and in 1962, went to work with Bacon Printing, until his retirement in May 2004. He had been a member of East Orrington Congregational Church since 1940, and was a deacon for life. Mr. Moore was an active member of the former Homemakers Club of the church, and he had built many special pieces of furniture for the church, such as the communion table, in memory of his first wife, Jean; the kneeling bench; the lectern, which holds the guest book as you enter the church; and the wood case that holds the 'In Memoriam' book in the vestibule of the church. Mr. Moore was a charter member, life member, and treasurer for 35 years of the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge No. 217 of Orrington. He built the first 'pop-up camper,' called S & M Trailers, in 1950, with his neighbor and friend, Oscar Salisbury. Surviving are a daughter, Priscilla, and her husband, Richard B. Gray of Brewer; a son-in-law, James Grindal of Orrington; four grandchildren, Jennifer Mott and her husband, David of Brewer, Cynthia Footman and her husband, Scott of Greenville, Mark Gray and his wife, Kim of Hampden, Julie Edgecomb and her husband, Steven Jr. of Brewer; four great-grand-children, Delaney Mott, Owen and Seth Gray, and Mya Edgecomb; one brother, John E. Moore of Utah; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Burrill and Lorraine Moore; four stepchildren, James Rawcliffe and his wife, Betty of Trenton, Judy Hawkins and her husband, Bill of Eddington, John Rawcliffe and his wife, Sally of Hampden, Jeffrey Rawcliffe and his wife, Rachel of Hampden; step-grand-children, great-step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean (Burrill) Moore on Aug. 9, 1985; a daughter, Carolyn Grindal, on May 21, 2002; his second wife, Bessie Rawcliffe Moore, on Sept. 20, 2003; two sisters and two brothers. A special thank you to Wanda Golding and Nancy Patten. You were so special to Ed, and his family is so appreciative of your kindness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at East Orrington Congregational Church with the Reverends Adam Soderberg, and Patricia Moore officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at Carlson Hall at East Orrington Congregational Church after the service. Interment will be at Marston Cemetery, Snows Corner Road, Orrington, after the reception. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Memorial Fund of East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Road, Orrington, 04474.8
