REX E. SMITH

PEMBROKE - Rex E. Smith, 49, died Monday at an Eastport hospital following a short illness. He was born at Marion, Aug. 31, 1920, the son of Willis and Elsie (Smith) Smith. He was educated in Marion schools. He was a member of the Pembroke Grange; George Washington IOOF Lodge and the Cobscook American Legion Post, all of Pembroke. He is survived by his mother, Mrs- Elsie Smith of Marion; his widow, Mrs. Bertha (Moore) Smith of Pembroke; three brothers, Leonard and Philip, both of Dennysville and Carl Smith of Calais; one sister, Mrs. Esther Lund of Lisbon; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m at the First Baptist Church in Pembroke with the Rev. George Henderson of Machias officiating. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Pembroke.4

     Rhoda Smith, daughter of James Smith and Elizabeth Cressy, was born on 23 October 1804 at Freedom, Waldo, Maine.2,3

     Rhoda, at age 18, daughter of James Smith and Elizabeth Cressy, married Philip Danforth Jr at age 30, son of Philip Danford and Mary Tibbetts, on 29 June 1823 at Freedom, Maine, by Daniel Ricker.1

     Rhoda Smith died on 3 February 1885 at age 80.4 and was buried at Miller Cemetery, Burkettville, Knox, Maine.4
