     Bertha Mae Carmean was born on 15 January 1912.1

     Bertha married Leonard Scott Van Dyke, son of Leonard Wilson Van Dyke and Juliet Lay Scott, on 18 June 1938.1

     Bertha died on 25 September 2008, at age 96,1 and was buried at Ridge Park Cemetery, Marshall, Saline, Missouri.2

Obituary

Bertha Mae Van Dyke, 96, of Marshall, Missouri, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Marshall with Rev. Dave Huck officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Elmwood United Methodist Church or Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice, in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Born Jan. 15, 1912, on a farm near Elmwood, she was the daughter of the late Harry Bertis Carmean and Nora Heyenbrock Carmean. On June 18, 1938, she married Leonard Scott Van Dyke, who preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1999. She lived in Saline County her entire life and attended William Jewell College, University of Southern California and Central Missouri State Teachers College. She taught at Elmwood School, and later at Sunnyside School, south of Shackelford, before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, The Monday Club and Chapter JS of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Survivors include one son, Robert Leonard Van Dyke of Marshall; one daughter, Jane Carmean Huff, and husband, George, of Marshall; four grandchildren, Margaret Herold Borowiec, and husband, Rich, of Tampa, Fla., Elizabeth Ann Van Dyke of Tampa, Fla., Ethan Van Dyke Huff of Pendleton, Ore., and Katherine Van Dyke Beebe, and husband, Reed, of Kansas City; and two great-grandchildren, Ivan Van Dyke Borowiec and Bruno Van Dyke Borowiec.2
