Anna Pierson, Succumbs at 71

- Word has been received of the death of Anna Marie Rawstrom Pierson of Newbury Park, Calif., a former Montclair resident. She died Aug. 15 in a hospital in Westlake Village, Calif., after a brief illness. She was 71. Mrs. Pierson was born in Montclair and lived here for 61 years. Before moving to Newbury Park, she lived in Farmingdale and Whiting. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. Private memorial services were held Aug. 17 at the Bethany Baptist Church, Thousand Oaks, Calif. Surviving are her husband, Raymond A Pierson; a daughter, Janet P. Abbink of Westlake Village; three brothers, Charles Rawstrom of Caldwell, Fred Rawstrom of Ridgeland, S C., and Harry Rawstrom of Newark, Del; four sisters, Mrs. Beda Moberg of Etlan, Va., Mrs. Ruth Bowman of Pt. Pleasant, Mrs. Esther Gibbs of Sun City, Ariz., and Mrs. Doris Todd of Arlington, Va; and two grandsons.3

Beda K. Rawstrom, wife of Sigurd Moberg
     Beda Karolina Rawstrom, daughter of Karl (Charles) Arvid Konstantin Rawstrom and Hilda Kristina Bäcklund, was born on 4 June 1900 at New Jersey.1,2,3 According to a passenger list, Beda Karolina Rawstrom was listed as a relative traveling with Karl (Charles) Arvid Konstantin Rawstrom and Hilda Kristina Bäcklund on 19 March 1904 at Christiania (Oslo), Norway; They arrived at the Port of New York, 02 Apr 1904. They were going home.4

     Beda married Sigurd Manfred Moberg, son of Axel Manfred Moberg and Maria Elisabeth Granath, on 6 April 1929, at Suffern, New York.1,5

     Beda died on 22 July 1988, at Culpeper Healthcare Center, Culpeper, Culpeper, Virginia, at age 88. Beda's cause of death was listed as debility of age and pneumonia; secondary dementia..3 She was buried at Etlan Cemetery, Etlan, Madison, Virginia.6

He owned a home, valued at $2500.00. Their children, Joan Carol and Roger Manfred, and Sigurd's sister, Doris were listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.10
