     Edmund S. Tappen was born circa 1835 at New York.1

     Edmund married Susan Meighy circa 1860.2 Edmund S. Tappen witnessed the death of Edmund S. Tappen on 7 July 1906 at Mineola, Nassau, New York,3 and was buried at Brookville Cemetery, Upper Brookville, Nassau, New York.4

Gretrude Tappen, wife of Nathaniel D. Walling
     Gertrude Tappen, daughter of Edmund S. Tappen and Susan Meighy, was born in October 1865.1

     Gertrude married Nathaniel D. Walling on 8 June 1887, at Brooklyn, Kings, New York.1,3

     Gertrude married Robert Lawrence circa 1908.4

     Gertrude died in 1933, at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank, New Jersey.1 She was buried at Cedarwood Cemetery, Hazlet, Monmouth, New Jersey.1

Census

     Gertrude Tappen appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Oyster Bay, Queens, New York, in the household of her parents, Edmund and Susan.5

     Gertrude and Nathaniel appeared on the 1892 New York Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, enumerated 16 February 1892. He was listed as a driver. Their children, Mabel, Louis Townsend and Cora were listed as living with them.6

     Gertrude and Nathaniel appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Raritan, Somerset, New Jersey, enumerated 1 June 1900. Nathaniel was a farmer. The census indicated Gretrude had six children, with five living. Their children, Mabel, Louis Townsend, Cora, Arthur, Edmund Starkins and Clinton were listed as living with them.7

     Gertrude appeared on the 1905 New Jersey Census of Raritan, Monmouth, New Jersey, enumerated 7 June 1905. She, now a widow, was listed as a farmer. Her children Mabel, Louis Townsend, Arthur, Edmund Starkins, Clinton, Gertrude Catherine and Norma were listed as living with them.8

     Gertrude and Robert appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Raritan, Monmouth, New Jersey, enumerated 29 April 1910. Her children Mabel, Edmund Starkins, Clinton and Norma were listed as living with them..9

Mrs. Gertrude Walling Lawrence

- Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Gertrude Walling Lawrence, of 422 Atlantic street, South Keyport, who died at the age of 67 on May 3. Mrs. Lawrence had suffered for a number of years from a heart ailment and death occurred at the Riverview hospital in Red Bank. Rev. W. S. R. Powell, minister of St. John's M. E. Church officiated at the services held at the Church. Interment was in Cedarwood cemetery. There are seven children surviving. They are: three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Simon and Miss Nonna Walling, of Roslyn Heights, L. I; Mrs. Gertrude Van Dyke, of Hickville, L. I; four sons, Louis T. Walling, Edmond Walling and Clinton iWalllng, of this borough and Arthur Walling of Fayette, Ohio. There are also nine grandchildren who survive. Mrs. Lawrence has resided in this section more than 20 years, and was the widow of the late Nathaniel Walling, of Keyport, and later married Robert Lawrence, of Oswego, N. Y. She was a member of the Keansburg Methodist Church.10
