     Myrtie W. Thomas, daughter of Charles W. Thomas and Ida V. Pierce, was born on 21 October 1890 at Maine.2

     Myrtie, at age 19, daughter of Charles W. Thomas and Ida V. Pierce, married Carroll E. Starbird on 3 July 1910 at Maine.3

     Myrtie died on 29 May 1972, at Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, at age 81,2,4 and was buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, Penobscot, Maine.5

     Myrtie and Carroll appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Sangerville, Piscataquis, Maine, enumerated 13 January 1920. They were living on East Sangerville Road. It appears next door to David Thomas. Caroll listed his work as a farmer on a general farm. Their children, George A., Abner T., Caroll E. and Willard A. were listed as living with them.8

     Myrtie and Carroll appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Dexter, Penobscot, Maine, enumerated 22 April 1930. Carroll was a farmer on a general farm. Their children, George A., Abner T., Caroll E., Willard A. and John S. were listed as living with them.9

     Myrtie and Carroll appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Dexter, Penobscot, Maine, enumerated 29 April 1940. Carroll was listed as a laborer in road construction. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.10

Obituary

Mrs. Myrtie Stairbird, 81, widow of Charles E. Starbird died May 29 at a Bangor hospital after a short illness. She was born in Sangerville October 21, 1890, the daughter of Carroll and Ida Pierce Thomas. She attended Sangerville Schools, graduating in 1908 and also attended Farmington Normal School after which she taught for a time in District 10, Dexter. She was a charter and 50 year member of North Dexter Grange which she had served as secretary. She also belonged to Susie Carr Chapter OES of Sangerville and the First Free Baptist Church of Dexter. She is survived by five sons, George, Abner and Eugene Jr., all of North Dexter and Willard and John of Sangerville. One sister Mrs. Alice Colbry of Sangerville, also survives as do nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services are being held Thursday (this afternoon) at 2 o'clock at the Crosby-Neal Funeral Home, Dexter with the Rev. Andrew Spohrer officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.11
