Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31. As a result, this first registration included men born between June 5, 1886 and June 5, 1896. As World War I continued to escalate, the United States instituted a second draft registration. The second registration was for men who had turned 21 since June 5, 1917, so it added men born between June 5, 1896 and June 5, 1897. Two months later, a supplemental registration was held on August 24, 1918 for men who had become 21 years of age since June 5, 1918, adding the names of men who were born between June 5, 1897 and August 24, 1897. With no end in sight for World War I, the United States instituted it's third and final registration. It included all men who were between the ages of 18 and 21, and 31 to 45 years of age. This added younger men than the previous registrations, those who were born between September 12, 1897 and September 12, 1900; and added an older group of men, born between September 12, 1873 and September 12, 1888. Clifford filled out a draft card for World War I on 5 June 1917 (at age 28), while living at East Holden, Penobscot, Maine. He was described as tall, medium build, blue eyes, red hair. At the time he was working in farming and clerk on the H. P. Burrill Estate, Dedham, Maine.8

(The passing of Marion in September 1956 and Clifford re-marrying (Edith Pinkham) in June 1958, Clifford left a 'Last Will and Testament', leaving the house to Edith. On June 05 1965, Clifford passed away and on October 20, 1965, Edith sold the house to Earle and Gertrude Stevens) on 28 February 1924.10

the event of the RMS Titanic was a British registered four funnelled ocean liner built for the transatlantic passenger and mail service between Southampton and New York.
Constructed at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland Titanic was, on her maiden voyage, the largest vessel afloat.
On April 10th 1912 the Titanic sailed from Southampton with 2,200 passengers and crew. The RMS Titanic's original wireless transmissions, began at 11:55 PM Newfoundland Standard Time [1 1/2 hrs. later than EST, 3 1/2 hrs earlier than Greenwich]. Prior to that time, 8 iceberg warnings were given. Mr. Frederick Fleet was the deck crew member as "Lookout". Shortly after he sighted an iceberg the Titanic collided and started to sink sank. Three hours later, 1500 people died and 700 survived.

Its a busy bunch of burglars that we have with us this season. Following breaks at Carmel, Etna, Eddlngton Bend and North Brewer last week, they made a call in Dedham Friday night and on Sturday and Sunday did a little work In Hampden and Bangor. Saturday It was discovered that on the previous night the store of Clifford L. Burrill in Dedham had been burglarized, the safe being blown and about $200 in cash taken. As this break was in Hancock county, the sheriff of that county is at work on the case. (Further) At Dedham Friday night no one in the vicinity of the Burrill store heard the noise of the explosion when the safe was blown. The store was thoroughly ransacked and some goods taken. The eighteenth reunion of the Burrill family was held at the pariah house, Saturday, Aug. 20, with thirty-three present. Since it was a week earlier than customary, and on a short notice, the attendance was smaller than usual. Some of the members came during the morning and enjoyed a picnic dinner together. Coffee and kool-ald were made by Mrs. Elizabeth G. Burrill and Mrs. Gladys Brown. After the dinner the time was spent in a social way until the meeting was called to order by the president, Clifford L. Burrill. Minutes were read by Harold S. Burrill, acting secretary in the absence of the regular secretary. The committee on births, marriages and death, reported 11 births, 8 marriages and 16 deaths, this record covering a period of two years no reunion being held last year. The following officers were elected: President, Harold S. Burrill; vice-president, Galen L Goodwin; secretary, Bertha D. Burrill; treasurer, Marlon E. Burrill; committee on births, Marriages and deaths, Gertrude B. Pond; Elvle Burrill, Ethel M. Goodwln; committee on resolutions, Mary M. Burrill, Maud Brewster, Hazel Cowing; committee on program Howard B. Goodwin, Jean B. Moore and Robert Goodwin. The following program was presented under the able chairmanship of Howard B. Goodwin: Piano' duet, Howard and Robert Goodwin; vocal solo, Clifford L. Burrill; group singlng, led by Clifford L. Burrill; vocal solo, Barbara Goodwin; play, At the Tomb of the Uhknown Soldier, Howard and Robert Goodwin; readings, Phyllis M. Burrill: by all. Memorial resolutions, written by Mrs. Mary M. On 3 February 1958, Clifford indicated he was in Florida. Marion has been gone now for a year and a half.
He comments how it seems lonesome, yet, he doesn't mind it too much with all the people around. He had a nice lunch at a nice eating place, then went to the pier for the P. M. program. (Clifford comments,'It's never the same'). He spent half a day looking at boats. Even though they have some nice boats, he says he still likes the one he has. A comment from Clifford, 'Papers say very little snow in Washington county' but, 'They can have this in the summer I will take G.P. (Guard Point) but it is a good place to spend the winter'.12

Daniel, at age 23, son of William Watson Burrill and Arvesta Condon, married Anna Belle Moore at age 19, daughter of Edward W. Moore and Maria L. Davis, on 7 September 1895 at Holden, Penobscot, Maine. They were married by Richard Mills, Clergyman, Holden, Maine.5,6,7
Daniel died on 10 September 1910 at Holden, Penobscot, Maine, at age 38. The reporting of death physician, Howard L. Jackson, East Eddington, Maine.8 He was buried at Union Cemetery, Dedham, Hancock, Maine.9

Daniel left a Will before 7 December 1910 at Holden, Penobscot, Maine, The actual was not viewed, however, from the Register of Deeds, an abstract is as follows:
Second. I give, devise and bequeath unto my mother, Arvesta Burrill, a home (while she may live) with my family.
Third. I give, devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Anna Belle, all my property remaining, real, personal and mixed of what nature and kind soever and wherever the same shall be at my death.10
