     Mary Cushman Silsby, daughter of Herbert Trafton Silsby and Margaret Fannie Schoppe, was born on 20 March 1893 at Aurora, Hancock, Maine.3,1,4

     Mary, at age 23, daughter of Herbert Trafton Silsby and Margaret Fannie Schoppe, married Leslie Frank Burrill at age 29, son of Hadley Proctor Burrill and Ella F. Lovejoy, on 21 June 1916 at Brewer, Penobscot, Maine. They were married by E. M. Cousins, Clergyman, Bangor, Maine.5

     Mary died on 5 July 1989, at Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, at age 96,6 and was buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, Penobscot, Maine.7

     Mary and Leslie appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, at 75 Poplar Street, enumerated 3 January 1920. Leslie worked as an agent in a broker office. Their daughter, Eleanor Silsby and Mary's brother, Charles S. were listed as living with them.10

     Mary and Leslie appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, at 75 Poplar Street, enumerated 15 April 1930. They owned their home valued at $7000.00. A radio was in the home at this time. Leslie was listed as employed as a 'partner' in farm implements. Their children, Eleanor Silsby and Margaret Frances and Mary's brother, Charles S. were listed as living with them.11

     Mary and Leslie appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, at Ohio Street, enumerated 2 April 1940. Their daughter, Margaret Frances was listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.12

MARY S BURRILL

BANGOR — Mary S. Burrill, 96, wife of the late Leslie F. Burrill, died at a Bangor nursing facility, July 5, 1989. She was bom March 20, 1893, in Aurora the daughter of Herbert T. and Margaret (Cushman) Silsby. A member of the Hammond Street Congregational Church and the Frances Dighton Chapter DAR, she had been active for many years in the musical groups of Bangor. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor and OB Hill of West Hartford, Conn., and Port St. Lucie, Fla and Margaret and David Hempstead of Sun City Center, Fla., and Onawa Lake Maine; four grandchildren, Judith H. Rick of Longlake, Minn., David B. Hempstead of Yarmouth, Debbie Hill-Hunter of Bangor and Sharon H. Shaw of Solesbury, Pa., eight greatgrandchildren. Friends may call 1 pm Saturday July 8, 1989, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 2 pm Saturday with the Rev. Dr. Hugh Burrill Penney of the South Congregational Church of New Britain, Conn., nephew of the deceased officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.13
