Stanhope of Dover-Foxcroft Miss Smith graduated from Foxcroft academy in the class of 1938 being one of the high ranking honor students. Since graduation she has had local employment. Mr. Stanhope was graduated from Foxcroft academy in the class of 1937 and from the Bentley school of accounting and finance in Boston in 1939. Immediately following graduation he accepted a position as accountant in the office of the Dover Motor company. The date of the wedding has not been announced.3

Elizabeth Wed at Smith Foxcroft Becomes Bride of Murray M Stanhope in Home Ceremony

- DOVER-FOXCROFT July 21— An attractive home wedding was solemnized Saturday evening at 7:30 o'clock when Miss Elizabeth G. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry B. Smith of Dover-Foxcroft became the bride of Murray M. Stanhope at the home of the bride groom’s parents Dr. and Mrs. Charles N. Stanhope, South street. The Rev. Heibert R. Livingston, pastor of the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational church read the double ring service. The couple were attended by Miss Barbara Stanhope the bridegroom's only sister, and Cleon Smith the brlde’a onty brother. The ceremony was performed before a bank of greens Interspersed with rod roses with baskets of colorful garden flower used about the living rooms. The bride wore a gown of white mousseline de sole fashioned with square neck and puffed sleeves with a slight train. Her full length veil a family heirloom was caught back with a wreath of orange blossoms and she carried a bridal bouquet of lilies. Her bridesmaid wore white organdy with navy dots and carried an arm bouquet of American beauty roses. The bride’s mother wore pale green crepe with a corsage of talisman roses, while the bridegroom's mother was gowned in black net with red roses. Following the ceremony a buffet lunch was served In the dining room the color scheme of the floral display here being yellow and blue The flower arrangements were in charge of Leslie VanAiken local florist. The bride's cake was made by Mrs. John A. Marsh Miss Effie M. Stanhope presided at the punch bowl. The bride's gift to her bridesmaid was a wide gold link bracelet and the bridegroom's gift to the best man was a leather billfold. The bride was graduated from Foxcrofty academy in the class of 1938 and since graduation has been employed locally. The bridegroom was graduated from Foxcroft academy in 1937 and from the Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in Boston in 1939. Immediately following graduation he accepted a position as accountant for the Dover Motor company. The wedding party included Mr. and Mrs. A Wendell Anderson of New York city, Miss Effie Stanhope of Saugus, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. Forrest B. Marsh of Bangor, Miss June Burrlll of Brewer, Mr. and Mrs. J Eric Love, Mr. and Mrs. Henry B. Smith and son Cleon, John W. Marsh, Mr. and Mrs. John Marsh, Miss Barbara Stanhope and Dr. and Mrs. C. N. Stanhope. The bridal couple left for a short wedding trip to Boston and vicinity. They will be at home after August at their apartment at 49 South street.      Elizabeth and Murray were The Dover Foxcroft Couples Club celebrated its first anniversary recently with a banquet at the Lancy House in Pittsfield with an attendance of 35 couples. The committee in charge included John and Ella Anderson, chairmen Earl and Blanche Gordon, George and Barbara Howard, Virgil and Dorothy Warren, on 19 April 1947.6

MURRAY M. STANHOPE, office manager, Dover Motor Co., was b in Portland Jan. 9, 1918, and is the s of Charles N. Stanhope, M. D., and Maude Marsh Stanhope. He m Elizabeth G. Smith, who was b to Henry B. and Alice Cross Smith in Dover-Foxeroft July 24, 1919. Both are g of Foxcroft Academy, and he also g from the Bentley School of Accounting, Boston.      Elizabeth died on 12 January 2009, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover Foxcroft, Piscataquis, Maine, at age 89,8,9 and was buried at Dover Cemetery, Dover Foxcroft, Piscataquis, Maine.10

Elizabeth (Smith) Stanhope

DOVER-FOXCROFT - Elizabeth (Smith) Stanhope, 89, passed away peacefully Jan. 12, 2009, after a long illness. In October 2008, she had joined her husband of 68 years, Murray Stanhope, at Hibbard Nursing Home. She was a lifelong resident of Dover-Foxcroft, where she graduated with honors from Foxcroft Academy. Elizabeth dedicated her life to helping others. She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and sharing her harvest with friends and relatives. Elizabeth belonged to the Miosac Club and the congregational church, played bridge and duplicate bridge, and volunteered in the community. After raising four children, she worked for Koritsky's department store. In retirement, Elizabeth and Murray resided in Zephyrhills, Fla., during the winter months. She is survived by her husband and children, Betty-Jane Meader and her husband, Dick, of Waterville, Nancy Smith and her husband, Steve, of Stonington and Port St. Lucie, Fla., James and his wife, Laney (Robinson), of Tampa, Fla., and Robert and his wife, Fran (Nelson), of Raymond. Her grandchildren include, Lance Meader and his wife, Amy (Worthley), of Falmouth, Daren Meader and his wife, Jen (Stump), of Gorham, April Smith of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Kevin Stanhope and his wife, Katie (Corbett), of Gray. She always lit up when she saw her five great-grandchildren, Drew, Bode, Jace, Jaelyn and Macy. Also, Elizabeth is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Stanhope and her companion, Rachel Alden; and a niece, Ellen (Smith) Thomas, and her partner, Gordon Engstrom, all of Bangor. She was predeceased by her brother, Cleon Smith and his wife, June and their daughter, Dianne VanDyke. Special thanks are extended to her head caregiver, Tracy Raymond, as well as Bobby Webb, Mary Hall, Regina Foster, Star Legere, Joan Rowe, Ruth Salley and Renee Ogden. At her request, a graveside service only will occur in the spring or summer.
