     Olof Arvid Grann was born on 13 April 1905 at Ulricehamn, Älvsborg, Sverige.1

     Olof emigrated on 14 February 1925, from Göteborg, Sverige.2

     Olof was found on thr "S/S Drottningholm" passenger list on 14 February 1925, departing Gothenburg, Sweden.3

     Olof married Hanna Dagmar Ahlborg, daughter of Johan Ahlborg and Maria Elisabet Östholm, on 4 December 1930.4

     The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. Olof filled out a draft card for World War II on 16 October 1940 (at age 35), while living at East Providence, Rhode Island.5

     Olof, Hanna and their son, Roy William were on the "S. S. Kungsholm" passenger list on 8 September 1950, departing Göteborg, Sverige. Their destination was listed as Port of New York.6

     Olof died in February 1976, at Riverside, Providence, Rhode Island, at age 70,7 and was buried at 1 Rhode Island Ave, Johnston, Providence, Rhode Island.8

     Olof appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Cranston, Rhode Island, at 234 Orchard Street, enumerated 8 April 1930. Olof was living at the residence of his uncle, Richard C. Grann. His occupation listed as a building painter.9

     Olof and Hanna appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of East Providence, Rhode Island, enumerated 12 April 1950. Olof was working as a painter. Their children, Roy William were listed as living with them.10

Obituary

GRANN, ROY W., of Cranston and formerly of Riverside, RI and Hobe Sound, FL, died Wednesday in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Schofield) Grann
Mr. Grann was born in Providence a son of the late Olof A. and Hanna (Ahlborg) Grann. He retired after serving 30 years in the East Providence Fire Department obtaining the rank of Lieutenant. He served with the US Army in Europe and was a merchant seaman. Mr. Grann was a retired member of the E.P.F.D. Local #850, a member of the E.P. Permanent Firefighters Beneficial Association and the E. P. Fire and Police Retirees Association, a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Barrington where he served on the property committee and enjoyed sailing, traveling, his home in Florida and his family.
Besides his wife, to whom he had been married for 45 years in May, he is survived by a son Eric W. Grann and daughter-in-law Fran of Douglas, MA, a daughter Karin E. Grann of East Hartford, CT, and three grandchildren, Kristopher, Allison and Garrett.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday April 22nd at 11 AM in the St. James Lutheran Church, 49 Middle Highway, Barrington. Calling hours in the Church Fellowship Hall, Monday 4-7 PM. A collation will follow in the Church immediately after the Church Service. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Published in The Providence Journal on 4/19/2008.1
