     Joseph married Elin Maria Berggren, daughter of Anders Berggren, on 13 March 1920, at Västerås domkyrkoförsamling, Västmanland, Sverige.5,6

     Joseph was on the "S.S. Drottningholm" passenger list on 27 January 1923, departing Göteborg, Sverige. He arrived at the Port of New York, 06 Feb 1923. His final destination was Chicago, Illinois.7

     Joseph was naturalized on 18 December 1929, at Circuit Court, Chicago, Cook, Illinois.3

     The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. Joseph filled out a draft card for World War II on 27 April 1942 (at age 51), while living at 1234 Newport Ave, Chicago, Cook, Illinois. At the time, Joseph was working at Fulton Machine Company, Chicago. He had blue eyes and brown hair.8 He witnessed the death of Joseph Gosell on 15 December 1963 at Cook, Illinois.9,10

Marie V. McGhie Services

Marie V. McGhie, will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine. She passed away Sunday, May 19, 2002, in Tennessee. She was the beloved wife of the late Jack McGhie and the late Delmar Swanson; loving mother of Lynn (Larry) McGhie and Joan (Mike Guthrey); beloved grandma of Erin and Kara McGhie and Laura and Lisa Guthrey; and sister of Ruth Zirves, Paul Gosell and Brita Karambelas. She is also survived by three children; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren of Jack McGhie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elin Gosell. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whispering Hills Church of the Nazarene, 9826 Concord Road, Brentwood, TN 37027.
