Relationships

1st cousin 1 time removed of Walter Carl Van Dyke
Ruth Angelina Rawstrom, daughter of Karl (Charles) Arvid Rawstrom and Hilda Kristina Bäcklund, was born on 17 May 1902 at New Jersey.1

Ruth kept an informative diary. Some selected abstracts include:
February 09 1921 Uncle Gotfrid came home late and gave no reason for the delay. Sorry to say, he doesn't treat Moie very well. He was a little intoxicated last Saturday she told me and hit her so hard a black and blue lip for several days after. (You can see he doesn't love her but she runs around and does everything for him but is crazy about Astrid). March 04, 1921 Astrid was waiting up for us. We had a very pleasant evening (I mean it) and I also made a batch of fudge which turned out ok. The reason I didn't stay overnight was that Moie was afraid Uncle Gotfrid would be intoxicated when he did not come home before 10. May 31, 1921 Tonight I went right up to Moie's from the office. It was about the only time I had and I wanted to finish my organdie dress and hat if possible. I called Uncle Gotfrid at Sprague Electric but he had already left at 4:30. But he did not get home until after I arrived, and where he had been nobody knows, but we can surmise! He had to blow up his tires he had told Moie and that took him almost 2 hours! He lies more than a dead cat. October 20, 1921 Carl Danielson came running after us and wanted to see me. It was funny he had nothing special to ask me but told me all about the smash up Uncle Gotfrid had had while driving drunk. Mama knew this long ago (about two weeks ago) but it was all new to me because I hadn't been told about it. Mr. Nuse next door Moie fixed it up with the judge so the verdict was he had been drinking but was not drunk. So he was fined $26.40 for reckless driving. His whole car was smashed up. He and the man with him was bruised and the truck they ran into, as it was turning out the turnpike was damaged a couple of hundred dollars, otherwise no serious injury was done. December 09 1921 I embroidered on the little apron I am making for Astrid's Christmas present and kept at it off and on all day until I finished it. January 20, 1922 It was payday for Uncle Gotfrid and he did not get home until a little late, about 7 o'clock. So Moie was sure he had and spent his money for drink. He did not seem drunk to me but I guess he did have a little. Moie said he was so drunk last Friday that Mr. Nuse had to go to Bloomfield and bring him home. July 28 1924 Up at Moie's old Uncle Gotfrid made me sit on his lap an everything. I despise him and he likes to make out I'm the girl for him, the fresh old married man. That's one reason I don't like going to Moie's anymore than just to be civil and sociable. Poor Astrid, I don't know what is the matter with her. I'm afraid she is a little off. Probably from the rough treatment she got after her mother died. But anyhow the fact is she may have to stay in the second grade for the third year. She will probably grow out of it as she gets older but I'm not so crazy about dumb kids.
(It should be noted, "Moie" was Carl Seadale's wife, Anna Marie, and "Gotfrid" was Carl.) on 9 February 1921.2 As of 7 May 1927, her married name was Bowman.1
