     Edmund's obituary read as follows:
VOORHIES - EDMUND W., August 5, 1949, husband of Sarah Voorhies; father of Howard W. Voorhies and Mrs. Edna V. Keene. Service at his residence, 2188 Ocean Avenue, Monday, 2 P. M.5


     Edmund W. Voorhies was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings, New York.6

     Edmund and Sarah appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, at Ocean Avenue, enumerated 18 June 1900 Edmund was working as a carpenter. Their children, Howard W. and Edna S. were listed as living with them.8

     Edmund and Sarah appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, at Ocean Avenue, enumerated 30 April 1910. Edmund was a Brooklyn postmaster. They had a servant in the home Their children, Howard W. and Edna S. were listed as living with them.9

     Edmund and Sarah appeared on the 1915 New York Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, at Ocean Avenue, enumerated 1 June 1915. Edmund was the commissioner of public works. Their children, Edna S. were listed as living with them.10

     Edmund and Sarah appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, enumerated 10 January 1920. Their children, Edna S. were listed as living with them.11

     Edmund and Sarah appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, at 2188 Quentin Road, enumerated 1930. Edmund was city employed, listed as a shipping company Their children, Edna S. were listed as living with them. Their grandchildren, Elizabeth A. and Ellen G. were listed as living in the household.12

     Edmund and Sarah appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, at Ocean Avenue, enumerated 1940. Edmund was working as a real estate broker. They had one boarder, Esther Carlson, age 23, working as a housekeeper for a private family Their children, Edna S. were listed as living with them. Their grandchildren, Elizabeth A. and Ellen G. were listed as living in the household As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.13

     Jacob Cowenhoven was baptized on 26 August 1750.1

     Jacob, at age 29, married Rachel Bergen at age 18 on 21 April 1780.1

     Jacob Cowenhoven died at age 75, on 23 April 1826, (a captain of infantry in the Revolutionary war), while a prisoner on parole on Long Island. Prior to the occupation of New York by the British army, Capt. Conover was sent to Sandy Hook and smashed the lamps of the lighthouse,2 to prevent the expected British fleet from having the benefit of the same ; was afterwards taken prisoner near Middletown Point, brought on board one of the enemy's vessels and threatened to be hung on the yard arm as a rebel, the noose even being prepared for his neck, and subsequently confined among the prisoners in the sugar.1
