     Adriaen Willemszen Bennet, son of Willem Adriaensz Bennet, was born in 1637.2,1

     Adriaen, married Angenietje Van Dyke, daughter of Jan Thomasse Van Dyke and Tryntje Achias or Haegen, on 3 December 1662. They lived at Yellow Hook, now Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, until 1681 when he sold his farm to Carl Janse Van Dyke and removed to Gowanus, Brooklyn.1,4,3

     Adriaen was settled at first in New Utrecht, of the Reformed Dutch Church of which place he was a member and deacon in 1677, and constatble of said town in 1676. In addition to a farm in the village, he owned in 1677 lots Nos. 6, 7,8,9, and 10, fronting on the Bay and extending back to the present Third Ave., at Yellow Hoek, now Bay Ridge, containing about 150 acres, and covering the whole block between Bay Ridge Ave. and Van Brunt's Lane, with the exception of lot No.5 of 30 acres. In 1675 he and his .associates of New Utrecht petitioned Govenor Colve for a grant of land on Staten Island, as per page 643 of Vol. II. of .Doc. of Col. His. of N. Y.
Jan. 26, 1681/2, he sold his Bay Ridge premises to Denyse Theunise; the ancestor of the Denyse family. He sold his New Utrecht house and lot on the same date to Hans Harmense (Van Barkeloo), and his farm in 1681 to Carl Janse Van Dyck (Van Dyke), and removed back to Gowanus, buying Jan. 14, 1681, of his mother, for 12,000 Guilders in good merchantable wheat, what was lately known as the Schemerhorn farm at Gowanus. Took the oath of allegiance in 1687 at Gowanus as a native. On assessed (or assessment) roll of Brooklyn of 1683, Dongan's patent of 1686, a commissioner in 1687, and on census of 1698. Made his mark to documents. in 1677 at New Utrecht, Kings, New York.2
