Lawrence Thomas Sabella1

     Lawrence Thomas Sabella was born on 7 August 1892 at Illinois.1,2

     Lawrence married Eleanor Bertha Andersson, daughter of August Andersson and Adeline Marthina Cristensen.1

     The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. Lawrence filled out a draft card for World War II on 27 April 1942 (at age 49), while living at Mundelein, Lake, Illinois. He was described as 5' 6', 155 lbs., blue eyes, brown hair, and a ruddy complexion.3

     Lawrence died on 25 September 1955, at age 63,1 and was buried at Ascension Catholic Cemetery, Libertyville, Lake, Illinois.4

     Lawrence and Eleanor appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Waukegan, Lake, Illinois, at Ash Street, enumerated 2 April 1930, Lawrence was working as a house painting contractor. They also had a married couple (Lodgers); Edmond and Arlene Hinz in the home. He was renting at the time, paying $47.50 per month.. Their daughter, Beverly was listed as living with them.5

     Lawrence and Eleanor appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Waukegan, Lake, Illinois, at 702 Ridgeland Ave, enumerated 13 April 1940. Lawrence was working as a painter. He was renting, paying $35.00 per month Their children, Beverly were listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $21.35 in the year 2022. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2022 would have cost $.17 cents in 1940.6
