JOHN TUTHILL EXPIRES REVOLUTIONARY STOCK

" North Chemung. March 1. (Special) Comes news of the death February 24, at his daughter's home in Middletown, of John Bartlett Tuthill, native and long a resident of Tuthill Ridge, North Chemung, seat of his Revolutionary forbears. Mr. Tuthill liverd eighty-four years, his father was Hiram Tuthill, a sterling citizen long gone but remembered well; decedent was therefore a brother of Francis G.Tuthill, but lately departed, and Bartlett Seely Tuthill of this village is his nephew and namesake. Of six children that survived infancy Bartlett Tuthill, Just gone, was the last to remain, save one: Hiram Tuthill. resident in Chester, Orange County. Survivors, too, are the daughter as above, and decedent's son Hiram, also of Chester. Of noteworthy ancestry are the Tuthills; their line goes back to the early Irish kings to old King Tuathall. Colonel John Tuthill. founder of the family in this section, came early from Orange County and settled on Tuthill Ridge; he is described a very prominent and worthy citizzen. Colonel John was a fighter in the continental wars; a compatriot in the Wyoming massacre of James Green and of that Lebbens Hammond who escaped by stratagem the death maul of Queen Esther at Bloody Rock. But the Colonel's gjave and Green's are brush grown and forgotten in an abandoned burying ground off the ridge road.6
