Note: Samuel Bancroft was a deacon, a justice of the peace, captain in command of the Reading militia which marched in Aug. 1757 to the relief of Fort William Henry, Selectman in 1757-1760,1762-63 and 1766, representative in the Massachusetts General Court in 1769, 1770, 1773-74. Given the dates of his community service, it's doubtful that he removed to Nova Scotia in 1761 with his son Samuel as is alleged in Calnek's 'History of the County of Annapolis,'
