     Sarah Underwood Lovejoy, daughter of John Lovejoy and Mary Dolly Jennings, was born on 4 June 1811 at Fayette, Maine.1

     Sarah, at age 25, daughter of John Lovejoy and Mary Dolly Jennings, married John Hudson Gilman at age 35 on 3 October 1836 at Sebec, Piscataquis, Maine.1

     Sarah Underwood Lovejoy died on 16 February 1885 at Orono, Penobscot, Maine, at age 73.1 and was buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, Penobscot, Maine.2

     Sarah and John appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Orono, Penobscot, Maine, enumerated 2 July 1870. John's real estate valued at $2000.00 and personal property at $4000.00. Their daughter, Ada was listed as living with them.5

     Sarah and John appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Orono, Penobscot, Maine, enumerated 9 June 1880. John was a farmer..6

     Stanley Steven Lovejoy, son of Stephen Frank Lovejoy and Mary A. Draier, was born on 15 January 1911 at Cool, El Dorado, California.1,2

     Stanley, son of Stephen Frank Lovejoy and Mary A. Draier, married Helen Elizabeth Foster circa 1933.3

     The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. Stanley filled out a draft card for World War II on 27 December 1940 (at age 29), while living at Cool, El Dorado, California.4

     Stanley died at age 74, on 11 October 1985, at Cool, El Dorado, California,5 and was buried at Georgetown Pioneer Cemetery, Georgetown, El Dorado, California.6

Stanley S Lovejoy

COOL — Services for Cool native and lifelong resident Stanley Steve Lovejoy will be at 10 am Wednesday in the Chapel of the Hills in Auburn. Burial will follow in the Georgetown Pioneer Cemetery. He died Friday at age 74, after a long illness. Mr. Lovejoy was a cattle rancher and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of a pioneer family that settled in the El Dorado County community in 1854. Mr Lovejoy worked on the same ranch that his grandfather Loriston Hale Lovejoy bought more than 100 years ago. Mr Lovejoy was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 1981. He has no survivors5
