     Bertha Marcella Pond, daughter of Linus W. Pond and Hannah M. Perkins, was born circa 1875 at Holden, Penobscot, Maine.2

     Bertha, daughter of Linus W. Pond and Hannah M. Perkins, married Herbert Leslie Black at age 27, son of Jesse Taylor Black and Emeline S. Wheeler, on 31 December 1892 at Holden, Penobscot, Maine.3,4

     Bertha died on 21 May 1952, at Maine.5

     Bertha and Herbert appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Dedham, Hancock, Maine, enumerated 10 May 1940. Herbert owned his home, valued at $800.00. He was working on his farm. Both he and Bertha had completed the 8th grade.. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.9

Mrs. Bertha Black, 76, wife of Herbert L. Black of Dedham died yesterday at a local nursing home after a long illness. She as born in Holden, daughter of the late Linas and Hanna Pond. Funeral services will be announced.10
