     Alta Mabel Black, daughter of Herbert Leslie Black and Bertha Marcella Pond, was born on 8 March 1898 at Dedham, Hancock, Maine.1

     Alta, at age 22, daughter of Herbert Leslie Black and Bertha Marcella Pond, married Richard Dewey Emery, son of John V. Emery and Blanche E. Dugan, on 24 December 1920 at St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada, they were married by Rev. L. H. Holmes, Clergyman, St. Stephen, New Brunswick.1,2

     Alta died on 1 October 1939 at Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, at age 41. Her cause of death was listed as 'accidental'.1,3,4 She was buried at Brookside Cemetery, Dedham, Hancock, Maine.3

Burns Were Fatal To Dedham Woman

Mrs. Alta Mabel Emery, 41, wife of Richard D. Emerv of Dedham brought to a local hospital Thursday with burns about the head, face and neck from 'he explosion of turpentine on her kitchen stove, died Sundav rrorning. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Herbert C. Black of Dedham who survive besides her husband and three daughters, Myrtle, Mildred and Edith Emery. She was a lifelong resident of Dedham, a member of New Century Grange and had many friends. Funeral services will be the resldence Tuesdayafierooon at two o’clock.4

Happy Home Wedding of Young Bangor People Wednesday Night

At the home of the brides mother, Mrs. Emma E. Trask, 169 State street, Wednesday night at 8 o'clock, occurred the marriage of Arthur H. Black and Miss Bertha E. Trask. The ceremony was performed by th Rev. Joshua M. Frost, pastor of Grace M. E. church, in the presence of a numerous gathering of relative of the couple, and Miss Grace Cunningham and Miss Grace Forrest were the maids. There were many handsome wedding gifts. The gathering at the house consisted of the parents cf the groom, Henry N. Black and wife; Charles E. Black, brother of the groom, and wife; Miss Alice Black, all of Bangor; Perley T. Black, brother of the groom, Waterville; W. D. Matheson. D. M. Matheson, Miss Rena B. Trask, Carl Dearborn and Albert Bean and wife. The groom la a young man well and very favorably known in Bangor and vicinity, having gained considerable prominence as a preacher of the Methodist faith in this section. He has preached with good effect in the Crosbyville chapel and in various surrounding towns. The bride is held in the highest esteem by a large circle cf friends, being a young lady of excellent qualities and most amiaole disposition. Mr. and Mrs. Black will reside at 169 State street.3,4,5


     Arthur died at age 68, on 18 January 1945,1,6 and was buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, Penobscot, Maine.7

BERNARD R BLACK

DEDHAM — Bernard Roscoe Black, 84, husband of Pansy (Tompkins) Black, died May 15, 1991, at his residence after a long illness. He was born in Dedham July 28, 1906, the son of Leonard R. and Laura (Lyman) Black. In addition to his wife of Dedham, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Marion 'Teddy" and Richard Hancock of Dedham; four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Louann Black of Dedham, David and Carol Black of Eddington, Leonard and Barbara Black of Dedham, and Francis and Diane Black of Rumford; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 pm Thursday at Brookings-Smith Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 S. Main St., Brewer where funeral services will be held 2 pm Friday with the Rev. Margaret Slater pastor of the Dedham Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Brewer.11
