     Henry N. Black, son of Benoni Black and Sally (Dolly) Norton, was born on 22 June 1840 at Palermo, Waldo, Maine.1,2

HENRY N BLACK AGED BANGOR VETERAN IS DEAD

BANGOR June 5 ( Special) — Henry N. Black died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Dearborn, at the age of 80 years. He had been a resident of Bangor for more than half a century. For 11 months during his gallant service as a soldier in the Civil War he was in Libby prison. He enlisted at the outbreak of the war in the old Second Maine Infantry but was mustered into Co. H Second Maine Cavalry. After being in Libby prison he was discharged from the service because of his health which had become impaired but he re-enlisted as soon as possible and served throughout the war. He was a member of B-H Beale Post G A R. Surviving are his widow Mrs. Ellen Black; his daughter, Mrs. Dearborn; three sons, Charles, Perley and Arthur.14
