Torrey L. Wickman, husband of Rosemary Allison
     Torrey Lyle Wickman, son of Virgil Dennis Wickman and Lillian Viola Johnson, was born on 1 January 1941 at Isanti, Minnesota.1

     Torrey married Rosemary Allison.2 Torrey Lyle Wickman witnessed the death of Torrey Lyle Wickman on 10 January 2003 at Tacoma, Pierce, Washington,3 and was buried at New Tacoma Cemetery, University Place, Pierce, Washington.3

     In June 2003, Torrey's son, Erik sent a letter to the Editor, "THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON ALUMNI MAGAZINE". It read as follows:
Husky Pride My father, Torrey L. Wickman, '63, recently passed away at the age of 62. I remember growing up in a household where learning was strongly emphasized. My dad was a school teacher for the better part of 28 years in the Tacoma area, and loved his affiliation with UW. I recall, as a young boy, sitting with him, watching the Huskies play football and listening to Dad sing "Bow Down To Washington". He would wear his Husky sweatshirts regularly and watch every game he possibly could. If he was busy around the house and couldn't watch it on TV, he would have the radios going throughout the house so he could listen to the game wherever he was. If we drove anywhere, the game was on the radio. We were a UW household, no doubt about it.
His passing has left a void in my life. He was diagnosed in November of 2002 with a very aggressive form of thyroid cancer and, within six weeks, he was gone. I have many tangible reminders of who he was and what he believed in, but his pride in his association with the UW is one of the things that I am most proud to carry on. When my career allows, I am going to attend UW to complete my bachelor's degree, so that I can carry on the traditions he instilled in me. My job in the Washington State Patrol is taxing at times, and often requires strange shift work that isn't conducive to regular school hours, but I will make it happen, no matter how long it takes.
I have always associated UW with my Dad because of his thirst for learning and education, and his pride in his alma mater. I would like to thank the University of Washington for working so hard to maintain the proud traditions of excellence in education, community involvement and great sports. My Dad was proud to be affiliated with the UW and every time I watch a game or see a sticker or a sweatshirt, it's a reminder of the wonderful man he was and, to a great degree, the man I am.

Torrey L Wickman

Torrey L. Wickman, retired Tacoma Schools teacher, (DeLong Mt Tahoma Foss) and for the past six years the receptionist plus at Chapel Hill Church in Gig Harbor, passed away, January 10, 2003. Born on New Year's Day 1941, to Pastor Virgil and Lillian Wickman in Braham, MN, he also lived in Chicago IL and Worcester MA before moving to Tacoma in 1956. After graduating from Stadium High School in 1959, he received both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the UW. He was a teacher at heart and students and colleagues enjoyed and respected him. In 1966 he met the love of his life - Rosemary Allison - in the choir loft at University Presbyterian in Seattle. They married in 1967, had their son, Erik in 1969 and adopted their daughter Mia in 1975, in Quito, Ecuador while serving as short-term missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators. They worshipped and actively participated at First Covenant Church, Central Baptist Church, and for the past nearly ten years at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church. Torrey taught many adult Sunday school classes especially on the Old Testament prophets and the Book of Revelation. Music was also a very important outlet for him he sang in various choirs and musical groups ever since high school and was proud to be a charter member of the Northwest Repertory Singers Music allowed him to receive and to give great pleasure His survivors include wife Rosemary son and family Erik Lisa Amber and Levi Wills and son Malekk Austin and Ariana daughter and family Mia and Jack Powell Maryn Kyle Joshua and Allyson mother Lillian brother and family Douglas and Sherri Jim and Trish and Susan sister Julie Howard sister-in-law and family Thelma and Doug McTavish and Brandon Swan special sister Mary Lane many relatives here and in Sweden and a host of friends who mourn his passing He was faithful to his family and to the Lord he served Special thanks to Drs Brad Schmitz Ron Taylor Chris Chen Jeff Long and their staffs and to Muiti Care Hospice nurses and staff A service celebrating God's faithfulness and goodness will be held at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church 7700 Skansie Gig Harbor on Tuesday January 14th at 3 pm with a reception following Memorials may be directed to the "Room to Grow program at the church NEW ' TACOMA 16

     Virgil Dennis Wickman, son of Oscar Allen Wickman and Lydia Charlotte Cassel, was born on 4 September 1908 at Saint Louis, Minnesota.1

Rev. Virgil Wickman

The Rev. Virgil D. Wickman, 76, a Tacoma resident the past 20 years, died Wednesday. Mr .Wickman, a native of Minnesota served as pastor of First Covenant Church here from 1956 to 1966. He had previously been pastor of churches in Minneapolis, Minn., Lewis Lake ,Minn., Chicago, Ill., and Worcester, Mass. After leaving here, Mr Wickman led churches in Rosemead, Calif., and Vero Beach, Fla. He retired in 1974 and returned to Tacoma. He was a member of First Covenant Church. Surviving are his wife, Lillian, two sons, Douglas of Beavercreek, Ohio and Torrey of Tacoma; a daughter, Julie of Upland, Calif; three brothers, Allen of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Lyle and Marden both of Minneapolis; two sisters. Marian Linge of Minneapolis and Ruth Wang of Houston, Texas and five grandchildren. Buckley-King at Brookside is in charge.8
