     Folke Borgman was born on 18 December 1902 at Ransäter, Värmland, Sverige.1

     On 22 September 1928, Folke emigrated from Göteborg, Sverige.2

     Folke was found on the "M/V Gripsholm" ship passenger list on 22 September 1928, departing Göteborg, Sverige. He arrived at the Port of New York, 01 Oct 1928. Folke was "single" and listed as a farm laborer. His final destination was Providence, Rhode Island. He was described as 5' 8", fair complexion, black hair and brown eyes.3,4

     Folke married Ellen Amanda Ahlborg, daughter of Johan Ahlborg and Maria Elisabet Östholm, on 21 October 1933, at Providence, Providence, Rhode Island.5

     Folke declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States, 04 Feb 1929. He was naturalized on 27 April 1936, at Rhode Island.6

     The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. Folke filled out a draft card for World War II on 16 February 1942 (at age 39), while living at 64 Stadden Street, Providence, Rhode Island. He wasworking for the Stenmark and Borgman Company.7

     Folke died on 15 October 1979, at Cranston, Providence, Rhode Island, at age 76.8

     Folke Borgman was buried at All Saints Cemetery, Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island.9

     Folke and Ellen appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Providence, Providence, Rhode Island, enumerated 12 April 1940. Folke was a mason contractor as owner. He was renting, paying $25.00 per month Their son, John Folke was listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.10

John was 69. He had lived in Cranston, RI. He passed away at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. He was born in Providence, RI. He was the son of the late Folke and Ellen (Ahlborg) Borgman. He had lived in Cranston, RI most of his life and Milbury MA from 1977 to 1989. John worked for his family at Borgman Cement before going to work at Paul Revere Insurance Co. in Worcester, MA. He was a member of John Baner Lodge #36 Order of VASA. He is survived by his daughter Christine G. Borgman of West Hollywood, CA and Gloria Nilsson, Steven Carlson and Roy Grann. He is remembered by his friends and loved ones as being a wonderful man. He was always there to lend a hand.1
