     Hilda and Anna Maria Bäcklund were found on the "S. S. Ariosto" passenger list on 10 March 1893, departing Göteborg, Sverige. Their destination was Hull, England.
The S. S. Ariosto was built in 1890 by Earle's Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. for the Wilson Line, Hull, England. It weighed 2,376 gross tons and measured 300.4 feet long by 38 feet wide with a draft of 20 feet. From 1890 to 1910, it was used for passenger service between Gothenberg, Sweden, and Hull, England. In 1910, it was sold to Spain and renamed the 'Louis Vives.' During World War I, it was torpedoed off Sicily in 1916.

     Hilda married Karl (Charles) Arvid Konstantin Rawstrom on 7 May 1897.8

     Hilda, his wife, Karl and their children, Elsie, Beda and Ruth were found on the "S. S. United States" passenger list departing 19 March 1904, from Christiania (Oslo), Norway. They arrived at the Port of New York, 02 Apr 1904. They were going home.9

     Hilda died on 24 July 1934, at Montclair, New Jersey, at age 57,3,10 and was buried at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Montclair, Essex, New Jersey.11

     Hilda and Karl appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Montclair, Essex, New Jersey, enumerated 7 June 1900 Karl was renting at the time. He was listed as a stair builder. They had a boarder in the home. Their children, Elsie Charlotta and Beda Karolina were listed as living with them.12

     Hilda and Karl appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Montclair, Essex, New Jersey, at 153 Valley Road, enumerated 25 April 1910. Karl was listed as working as a stairbuilder. Their children, Elsie Charlotta, Beda Karolina, Ruth Angelina, Charles Arvid, Anna Maria and Ester Kristina were listed as living with them. They also had Oskar Julius, Nils Ludwig and Anna Maria were listed as living with them.13

     Hilda and Karl appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Montclair, Essex, New Jersey, enumerated 13 January 1920. Charles was listed as owning his home with a mortgage, working as a carpenter. Their children, Beda Karolina, Ruth Angelina, Charles Arvid, Anna Maria, Ester Kristina, Fredrik Josef and Harry Wilfred were listed as living with them.14

     Hilda and Karl appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Montclair, Essex, New Jersey, enumerated 7 April 1930. Karl owned his home and was working as a house carpenter. Their children, Ester Kristina, Fredrik Josef, Harry Wilfred and Doris Ellen were listed as living with them.15

OBITUARY MRS. CHARLES A. RAWSTROM

- Mrs. Hilda Christina Backlund Rawstrom, wife of Charles A. Rawstrom of 153 Valley Road, died at her home Tuesday after a long illness. Born in Sweden fifty-five years ago, Mrs. Rawstrom came to Montclair at the age of sixteen and lived here ever since. She was a member of the Swedish Baptist Church. In addition to her husband she leave three, sons, Carl, Fred and Harry Rawstrom, all of Montclair; and six daughters, Mrs. Raymond Pierson, Mrs. Sigfried Bowman, the Misses Esther and Doris Rawstrom of Montclair; Mrs. Sigurd Moberg of East Orange and Mrs. Harry Larson of Port Washington, L. I. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 this afternoon at the Swedish Baptist Church, Rev. Gunnarsen will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Upper Montclair..16
