Eva Buckley, wife of Michael Collins
     Eva Buckley, daughter of Peter Buckley and Catherine "Surname Unknown", was born on 1 April 1895 at Rathcoole, Irish Free State, Ireland.1,4,5

     Eva was found on the "S. S. St. Paul" passenger list on 7 October 1916, traveling from Liverpool, England. She arrived at the Port of New York, 15 October 1916.6

     Eva was listed on a passenger list of the "S. S. Adriatic", on 14 September 1924. She departed from Cobh (Queensland), Ireland. Her occupation was listed as housemaid. She had $50.00, and described as 5' 3", fresh complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. Her arrival at the Poirt of New York, 22 Sep 1924.5

     Eva married Michael Collins, son of Michael Collins and Mary "Surname Unknown", on 11 September 1927, at New York.7,8

     Eva was returning home. She traveled 'Tourist Class', on the M. V. Britannic, scheduled to arrive in New York, 14 June 1952. The M. V. Britannic was described as a 27,666 ton, one of the best liners of its day. Six of her nine decks were for passengers. She was 712 feet in length and 85 feet in breadth. The covered Promenade Deck was, itself 400 feet long. For Tourist passengers, there was a smoking room, writing room, and two attractive lounges, the larger of which also served as a cinema. on 7 June 1952.9

     Eva died on 19 October 1985, at age 90,4,10 and was buried at Cemetery of the Holy Rood, Westbury, Nassau, New York.10

     Eva and Michael appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Oyster Bay, Nassau, New York, enumerated 23 April 1930. Michael listed his occupation as a laborer on a private estate. The census also shows he was renting at the time and did own a radio. His year of immigration was 1925. Their children, Michael J. and Marie Evelyn were listed as living with them.13

     Eva and Michael appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Oyster Bay Cove, Nassau, New York, at North Hempstead Road, enumerated 2 April 1940. Michael was renting at the time. He was listed as superintendent gardener at a private estate. He worked fifty-two weeks the prior year, earning $1340.00. Their children, Marie Evelyn, Michael J., Patrick and John T. were listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $21.35 in the year 2022. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2022 would have cost $.17 cents in 1940.14

     Eva and Michael appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Oyster Bay Cove, Nassau, New York, enumerated April 1950. Michael was an estate supeintendent. Their children, Patrick and John T. were listed as living with them.15

Eva (nee Buckley), on October 19, 1995, of Huntington (formerly of Oyster Bay Cove). Beloved wife of the late MichaeL Devoted mother of Marie Saunders, Michael J., Patrick P. and the late John T. Survived by seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren. Reposing at Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home. 293 South Street, Oyster Bay, until Tuesday, October 22. Mass of Christian Burial, St. Dominic's R.C. Church, at 10 AM. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Visiting, 3-5, - 7-9:30 PM.16
