     Eunice Elsie Ecks, daughter of William H. Ecks and Ella Radcliffe, was born on 1 August 1906 at Kings, New York.1,2

     Eunice married Joseph Gross on 12 January 1926.3

     Eunice died on 27 February 1988, at Riverside Hospital, Florida, at age 81,4 and was buried at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa, Hillsborough, Florida.5

81, of 1400 Marine Parkway, New Port Richey, died Saturday (Feb. 27, 1988) at Riverside Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she came here 16 years ago from St. Petersburg. She was a member of the Hudson Reformed Church. Survivors include a son, Joseph, New Port Richey; a daughter, Eunice VanRegenmorter, Plantation; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. George B. Morgan Funeral Home, New Port Richey.12

The steamship RHEIN, the first of two vessels of this name owned by Norddeutscher Lloyd, was built by Caird & Co, Greenock, Scotland, and was launched in August 1868. 2,901 tons; 106,4 x 12,22 meters (length x breadth); clipper bow, 1 funnel, 2 masts; iron construction, screw propulsion, service speed 12 knots; accommodation for 70 passengers in 1st class, 100 in 2nd class, and 600 in steerage; crew of 117.

Dear Brother Firemen: A tribute to William H. Ecks, was born in Germany, came to this country at the age of 14 resided at Canarsie L. I. Town of Flatlands (now the Borough of Brooklyn City and State of New York.) for a number of years and died June 13th 1932 at the age of 72. He was a charter member of Flatlands Engine Co. #1 and served in the capacity of Foreman and Secretary, was ready to perform the duties devolved upon him, served his full time in the Flatlands Fire Department and after disbandment entered the service of the Fire Department City of New York, from which he was retired. He was an active member of the Flatlands Volunteer Firemen's Association Inc. He held the position of Sergeant at Arms and Steward for a number of years and was faithful to his trust. Our hearts go out in sympathy to the stricken household and to our Association. We are again reminded that for us the shadows are swiftly lengthening and how brief the span of life. The Association he loved and served so faithfully has lost a valuable friend.6
