Dear Brother Firemen: A tribute to William H. Ecks, was born in Germany, came to this country at the age of 14 resided at Canarsie L. I. Town of Flatlands (now the Borough of Brooklyn City and State of New York.) for a number of years and died June 13th 1932 at the age of 72. He was a charter member of Flatlands Engine Co. #1 and served in the capacity of Foreman and Secretary, was ready to perform the duties devolved upon him, served his full time in the Flatlands Fire Department and after disbandment entered the service of the Fire Department City of New York, from which he was retired. Our hearts go out in sympathy to the stricken household and to our Association. We are again reminded that for us the shadows are swiftly lengthening and how brief the span of life. The Association he loved and served so faithfully has lost a valuable friend.6and was buried at Canarsie Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings, New York.7
