     Mary and David appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Roslyn, Nassau, New York, at Northern Boulevard, enumerated 11 April 1940. Daivd worked as a engineer in the W. P. A. (The Works Progress Administration (renamed during 1939 as the Works Project Administration; WPA) was the largest and most ambitious New Deal agency, employing millions of unskilled workers to carry out public works projects,[1] including the construction of public buildings and roads, and operated large arts, drama, media, and literacy projects). He was renting at the time, paying $25.00 a month. Their children, Alta M., Blair J., Alva A. and Donald F. were listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $21.35 in the year 2022. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2022 would have cost $.17 cents in 1940.5
