     John Charles Sawkins was born in January 1842 at New York.1

     John married Catharine A. Denice, daughter of Henry Denice and Sarah "Surname Unknown", circa 1865.1

     John married Emma H. Norwood circa 1907.3

     John died on 20 April 1922, at age 80,4 and was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings, New York.4

PIONEER FLATBUSH BUILDER DIES OF BRIGHT'S DISEASE

It iS with sincere regret that the many friends and relatives learned of the death of John Charles Sawkins at his home, 3110 Bedford avenue, Thursday, April 20. Mr. Sawkln's death was caused through Bright s disease. He was one of the oldest builders of Flatbush. He was 78 years old and was born In the old town. He was married twice; in 1865 he married Catherine De Nyse of Flatlands. who died in 1906. They had two children, Alfred and Arthur; both, of whom are dead. Later Mr. Sawkins, married Mrs. Emma Norwood. She died in 1912. Mr. Sawkins was a charter member ot theFenimore Street M. E. Church, Fenmore street and Rogers avenue, which he built. For many years he had been president of the Board of Trustees. He was president of the Board ofIncluding Directors of the Flatbush Co-operative Building an Loan Association. He had built a great part of Flatbush nearly all the residences on tennis court and P. S. No. 90, Church and Bedford avenue and No. 92, Rogers avenue and Robinson street Mr. Sawkins is survived by his brother, William 'H. Sawkins. of Mountainville, N. J., and two sisters, Mrs.Louise Windhorst and Mrs. Sophia Enok; a granddaughter, Mrs. Floyd Harned, and three great grandchildren, Eleanor and Walter Donovan and John Sawkins Harned. The funeral servlces were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his late residence, the Rev. Dr. E. H. Marvin, pastor of Fenlmore Street M., B. Church, officiating. The interment followed at Greenwood.2
