     Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31. As a result, this first registration included men born between June 5, 1886 and June 5, 1896. As World War I continued to escalate, the United States instituted a second draft registration. The second registration was for men who had turned 21 since June 5, 1917, so it added men born between June 5, 1896 and June 5, 1897. Two months later, a supplemental registration was held on August 24, 1918 for men who had become 21 years of age since June 5, 1918, adding the names of men who were born between June 5, 1897 and August 24, 1897. With no end in sight for World War I, the United States instituted it's third and final registration. It included all men who were between the ages of 18 and 21, and 31 to 45 years of age. This added younger men than the previous registrations, those who were born between September 12, 1897 and September 12, 1900; and added an older group of men, born between September 12, 1873 and September 12, 1888. Carl filled out a draft card for World War I on 4 June 1917 (at age 29), while living at 25 Ostego Road, Montclair, Essex, New Jersey. He was employed as a machinist for Sprag Electric Co. and described as height, medium and medium build with blue eyes and brown hair.8

     Carl and Anna were in this photograph which was taken circa 1936 sometime shortly before Anna's death. (The location where the picture was taken, is unknown at this time, 07 Feb 2006).9

     Carl died on 3 March 1942, at Glen Cove, Nassau, New York, at age 53; It appears Carl was unhappy after his wife passed away and probably, in addition, because Astrid married. According to the local newspaper article the gas jets on the stove were on, and his house blew up. They estimate he was dead from gas before the explosion. He was cremated on March 06 1942.10,11

     Carl allegedly commited suicide; based on the scene, on 3 March 1942;

Glen Cove, March 4 Carl Wilhelm Seadale, 53, was found dead in bed by a neighbor after an explosion had wrecked his home at 14 George Street. The gas is believed to have been ignited by a spark from the electric wiring system. Seadale had been dead for about four hours at the time of the explosion. His wife, Anna, died two months after they moved into the house two and a half years ago. His daughter, Astrid, was married four months ago, and he since had lived alone..12

M, b. 14 July 1892, d. 14 October 1948
     John Walter Seaholm was born on 14 July 1892 at Sunne, Värmland, Sverige.1

     John married Iris Emilia Nordqvist, daughter of Nils Oskar Nordqvist and Emma Kristina Andersson, on 13 November 1922, at Östra Emterviks, Värmland, Sverige.1

     The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. John filled out a draft card for World War II on 25 April 1942 (at age 49), while living at 31617 Lake Shore Blvd, Willoughby, Lake, Ohio. He was working for the Cleveland Crane Company.2 He witnessed the death of John Walter Seaholm on 14 October 1948 at Willoughby, Lake, Ohio.3
