     Barclay Van Dyke, son of Leonard Wilson Van Dyke and Juliet Lay Scott, was born on 19 June 1915 at Marshall, Saline, Missouri.1,2

     Barclay died on 2 July 2012, at Florida, at age 97,3 and was buried at Ridge Park Cemetery, Marshall, Saline, Missouri.2

Obituary

Barclay Van Dyke, 97, of Daytona Beach, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, following a brief illness. He was born June 19, 1915, in Marshall, MO, the beloved son of Leonard W. and Juliet Van Dyke and pre-deceased by his brother Leonard S. Van Dyke. A member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, he was a graduate of Westminster College and Harvard Business School. During WW II, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight instructor, teaching French pilots to fly American fighter planes. His final military assignment was Director of Flying, Gunter Air Force Base, Montgomery, AL. He began his career with Shell Oil Company in St. Louis in 1939. He resumed his career with Shell after the war, moving to New York, and later, to Houston, where he was assigned to the Exploration and Research Laboratory of Shell Development Company. In 1967, upon retiring from Shell, he moved to Daytona Beach to join the business department faculty of Daytona Beach Junior College, now Daytona State College, retiring in 1977. He was actively involved in supporting a number of arts-related organizations in Daytona Beach, including Seaside Music Theater, Museum of Arts and Sciences, and the Heritage Preservation of Volusia County. In addition, he was an enthusiastic supporter of the Florida International Festival in Daytona, the highlight of which was a summer concert series featuring the London Symphony Orchestra. He was an avid reader and enjoyed volunteering at the City Island Library for a number of years. He also served on the board of directors of the Daytona Beach YMCA and was a long-time member of the Halifax River Yacht Club. He was awarded the Gold Medal for Spelling at the Ormond Beach Senior Games in both 2010 and 2011. He is survived by a nephew, Robert L. Van Dyke; a niece, Jane (Van Dyke) Huff, both of Marshall, MO; several great-nieces and nephews, a number of cousins, and two especially close friends, Mark Carrier and Jane Edmonston. A Memorial service will be held 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, at Crosswalk Church, 1016 Clearwater Road, Daytona Beach. Pastor Mitch Pridgen will officiate.
