WM. PIERCE M.D.

Died peacefully on September 8. 2005 at home in Saratoga, California at the age of 82. He was born and raised in Canaiohane. New York. He entered Yale University in 1940 and graduated Valedictorian in 194 7 after serving our country as an Air Force Captain in WWII. He flew 50 missions In a B-24 as lead squadron pilot stationed in Italy. While at Yale University, he was a member of St. Elmo and Braeziiius Senior Society. He graduated Irom the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in 1953. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital In 1957 where he he served as Chief Medical Officer. He was a physician at Henry Fdrd Hospital from 1957 to 1995 and spent much of that time as Medical Clinic 1 Division Head. He was a revered member of the clinical faculty of the University of Michigan Medical School for many years. He was an avid tennis piayer and enioyed skiing for most of his lite. He was the loving father of the late Deborah Hatheway Smith and Rebecca Smilh-Coggins, MD. He is survived by his daughter Rebecca, son-in-law Dwain L. Coqgins. MD; grandsons Beniamin, Nathaniel and Timothy and brother Barton Peck Smith, MD. In lieu of a formal service, friends and family are asked to join in silent reflection and prayer at 8 a.m. Pacific time on Saturday, September 24, 2005.      Roger, at age 26, married Elsie Mccartney, daughter of Ewell Constantine McCartney and Ida Myrtle Lancaster, on 11 November 1921, at Montgomery, New York.4

     Roger died on 11 September 1975, at age 80,5 and was buried at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery, Canajoharie, Montgomery, New York.5

Their children, Pierce and Barton Peck were listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $21.35 in the year 2022. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2022 would have cost $.17 cents in 1940.7
