     Mary Sutphen was born in 1744.1

     Mary Sutphen
He was graduated from Princeton College in 1765; ordained by the Presby. of New Brunswick June 19, 1771 ; ministered at the Presby. ch. of Kingston, Somerset co., N. J., 1771-1774, and was pastor at Springfield, Essex (now Union) co., 1774- 1801. Is buried in the Springfield churchyard. This Springfield church was burned by the British during his pastorate, but he labored on and had a new one built and completed, though it took many years of effort. He wrote his surname "Van Artsdalen."2


     Mary married Rev. Jacob Van Arsdalen, son of Philip Van Arsdalen and Hannah Macknish.1

     Her married name was Van Arsdalen.1

     Mary died on 1 July 1826,1 and was buried at Presbyterian Cemetery, Springfield, Union, New Jersey.3

     Abraham Voorhees Suydam, son of Jeromus Suydam and Harriet F. Voorhees, was born on 5 December 1825 at Brooklyn, Kings, New York.1

     Abraham married Helen Woolsey, daughter of Rinocha "Surname Unknown", circa 1854.2

     Abraham married Eugenie Valot after 1865.3,4

     Abraham died on 3 November 1920, at Brooklyn, Kings, New York, at age 94,5,6 and was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings, New York.7

     Abraham and Helen appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Flatbush, Kings, New York, enumerated 21 July 1860.. Abraham was a farmer, his real estate valued at $25,000.00 and personal property at $2000.00. There were four laborers in the home.. Their children, Martha, Adrianna and Elsie were listed as living with them.Helen's mother, Rinocha (Marthe) and her children, Wyckoff and Joanna were also listed as living with them.9

     Abraham and Eugenie appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Flatlands, Kings, New York, enumerated 17 June 1870 His children Martha, Adrianna, Elsie and Jerome were listed as living with them.10

     Abraham and Eugenie appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Flatbush, Kings, New York, at Canarsie Road, enumerated 23 June 1880 Their children, Eugenie, Catherine, Harriet and Lemian were listed as living with them.11

Direct Descendant Of Hendrick Suydam, Early Dutch Settler

Funeral services for Mrs. Adrianna Suydam Fields, a member of one of Brooklyn's old Holland-Dutch families, who died friday in her home, in Schooley's Mountain, N. J.. will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Falrchild Chapel, 86 Lefferts Place. Burial will be In Green-Wood Cemetery. Mrs. Fields was stricken shortly after the death of her sister, Mrs. Harriet Voorhees Suydam Lott, who died last Sunday. She was one of seven daughters of the late Abraham V. and Helen Woolsey Suydam and was born in the old Town of Flatbush. She was a direct descendant of Hendrick Suydam, one of the earliest Dutch stttlers of Flatbush. Mrs. Fields was the widow of John J. Fields and was a member of Central Congregational Church and active in many charities. She left Brooklyn about 35 years ago to make her home In Schooley's Mountain and took an active Interest in the Community church there. Surviving are live sisters, Mrs. Martha Hegeman, of Springfield; Mrs. Elsie Van Siclen. Mrs. Jennie Cotter and Mrs. Lemian Bachman, of this borough and Mrs. Katherine Lott, of Flushing.2
