Simple Ceremony In First Congregational Church In Brewer

The Brewer First Congregational parsonage was the scene of a simple wedding Friday night at 8 o'clock when Miss Margaret I Reed, daughter of Mr. and ’Mrs. Gardner E. Reed, 87 Union street, Brewer, became the bride of Elwin Everett Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett J. Black, of Hollis Center. The Rev. Basil C. Gleason, pastor read the double ring seivlce. Miss Geraldine Reed, sister of the bride was maid of honor and Kenneth B. Dresser of Bucksport was best man. The bride wore soldier blue alpaca with Burgundy accessories and a corsage of yellow roses. Miss Reed's dress was beige wool with navy accessories and her corsage was of red roses. Mrs Reed, the bride’s mother, wore black crepe with white accessories and Mrs. Black, mother of the bridegroom was in navy blue crepe with white accessories. Following the ceremony a reception was held a the home of the bride's parents attended by about 75 relatives and friends. The bridal party was assisted in receiving by Mr. and Mrs. Reed and Mr. and Mrs. Black, parents of the bride and bridegroom. Mrs. Donald Reed presided at the gift table. Assisting in serving were Mrs. Melvin Kimball, Mrs. Albert Hewey, Mrs. George Crane, and Miss Ruth Black. The bride's cake was made by Mrs. Robert I. Turner, an old friend of the family. The bride was graduated from Brewer High school and has been employed at the Bangor State hospital. The brldegroom also a graduate of Brewer High school Is employed with Swift and company Bangor. Mr. and Mrs. Black left by motor on a wedding trip to Boston and will be at home after November 15 at 16 Bowdoln street, Bangor. Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dresser, Mary and Maxine Dresser and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dresser Bucksport, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Townsend, Francis Townsend and Mrs. Annie Townsend ,Hudson; Miss Irma Hoyle, Rockland; Mr. and Mrs. Winifred Femald, Islesford; Mr. and Mrs. George Crane, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Crane, Exeter; Mr. and Mrs. J. ELWIN E. BLACK

Elwin E. Black, 51, died Jan. 21, at his home, 409 North Main Street, Brewer. He was the husband of Margaret (Reed) Black. Born in Dedham, the son of Everett and Lora (Kenney) Black, he was a member of the First Congregational Church of Brewer. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army, and was employed as a salesman for the Gass Office Supply Company of Bangor. He owned and operated Black's Dairy Freeze in Brewer and was a co-owner of the Norge Village in Bangor's Westgate Mall shopping center. Besides his wife and father, both of Brewer, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Catherine) Wilson, Brewer; three sons, Russell E. of Kenduskeag, Richard I. and Rodney C., both of Brewer; a sister, Mrs. Robert Petrie of Northford, Conn; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the First Congregational Church of Brewer, Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. David Smith, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Friends may call at the Harvard H. Clark Funeral Home, 55 South Main Street, Brewer, today from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.
