     Hon. Nicholas Van Dyke, son of Nicholas Van Dyke and Lytie Dirks, was born on 20 December 1769.2 Hon. Nicholas Van Dyke was educated in 1788, and was admitted to the Bar of Delaware in 1792, elected to the Legislature in 1799, member of the United States Congress from 1807 to 1811; member of the Delaware Senate in 1815. He was a United States Senator from Delaware from 1817 to 1826 Unknown GEDCOM info: 1788.2

     Nicholas married Mary Johns, daughter of Kensy Johns and Susannah Galloway, circa 1799.3

     Nicholas died on 21 March 1826, at age 56.2

Nicholas A Van Dyke, husband of, first, Margaret Emmans, second Sarah Hendrick Eldert
     Nicholas Albert Van Dyke, son of Albert Nicholas Van Dyke and Jane Wyckoff, was born on 29 July 1805 at New York.2,1,3

     Nicholas married Margaret Emmans on 7 February 1829.1

     Nicholas married Sarah Hendrick Eldert, daughter of Hendrick Eldert and Sarah Hendrick Emmans, on 4 November 1833.1,4,5

     Nicholas died on 16 June 1881, at Flatlands, Kings, New York, at age 75; He died of Cystitis and Prostate enlargement. He worked as a farmer2,6,7 and was buried at Flatlands Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings, New York.8

     The following were listed as widow, heirs and or next of kin; his widow, Albert, Sarah, Henry, Jane, Sarah, Peter and Cornelia; sons, Albert, Sarah, Henry, Jane, Sarah, Peter and Cornelia and daughters; Albert, Sarah, Henry, Jane, Sarah, Peter and Corneliahis estate was proved on 7 September 1881, at Kings, New York.9

Their children, Albert N., Henry Eldert, Jane Wyckoff, Sarah Maria, Peter Wyckoff and Cornelia Eldert were listed as living with them.10

     Nicholas and Sarah appeared on the 1855 New York Census of Flatlands, Kings, New York, enumerated 29 June 1855, Their children, Albert N. and Henry Eldert were listed as living with them.11

     Nicholas and Sarah appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Flatlands, Kings, New York, enumerated 26 June 1860. Nicholas was listed as a farmer. His real estate valued at $8000.00 and personal property at $1000.00. Their children, Albert N., Henry Eldert, Jane Wyckoff, Sarah Maria, Peter Wyckoff and Cornelia Eldert were listed as living with them.12

     Nicholas and Sarah appeared on the 1865 New York Census of Flatlands, Kings, New York, enumerated 1 June 1865, Their children, Albert N., Henry Eldert, Peter Wyckoff and Cornelia Eldert were listed as living with them.13

     Nicholas and Sarah appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Flatlands, Kings, New York, enumerated 26 July 1870. He was working as a farmer. His real estate was valued at $12,000.00 and personal property at $10,000.00. Their children, Albert N., Henry Eldert, Peter Wyckoff and Cornelia Eldert were listed as living with them.14

     Nicholas and Sarah appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Flatlands, Kings, New York, enumerated 19 June 1880. Nicholas was listed as a farmer. Additionaly, they had a 25 year old farm laborer in their household. Their son, Albert N. was listed as living with them.15
