Obituary

27 July 1987

Muriel Z. Amundson, cosmetology teacher at Vocational High School

Muriel Z. Amundson, 73, a cosmetology teacher for 19 years at the former Vocational High School in Minneapolis, died Saturday at her Minneapolis home. Amundson started at Vocational, which closed in 1976, in the mid-1950s. Before that, she had a beauty shop in south Minneapolis. "She was devoted to her students," said Jane Pertinen, one of Amundson's former students. "She wanted to make sure all of them learned. If someone was having a special problem like a reading disability, she would stay late on her own time or come in early and work with those students. "She had the students in their second year when they actually had customers. The first year, they worked on each other. The customers were regulars because they knew she was a good teacher and supervised everything." Amundson retired about 1974 after a heart attack. She is survived by her husband, Reinert (George); a sister, Dorothy French of Denver, and a brother, Lloyd Ziegler of Dolton, 1ll. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Werness Brothers Chapel, 3700 Nicollet Av. S., Minneapolis. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Incarnation Catholic Church, 38th St. and Pleasant Av. S., Minneapolis. The family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Good Counsel Free Cancer Home in St. Paul.2
